If I where just starting out, I would think seriously about Dead Rail. However, I am heavily invested in DCC/Sound and personally can't afford to jump ship, this late in the game.
That's the steepest grade it has to climb. The only way it will overcome it is by making the system available to manufacturers to install it in factory. I liken it to Sony's Betamax v VHS. Which one won and which got confined early to the scrap heap, Sony learned the lesson with BlueRay.

Sony's Betamax was arguable a much better platform, but VHS had locked up the porno market. "say good night Irene"

The best does not always win, see 1969 world series and more recent events ;)

I should still have a Betamax player somewhere.

Good morning everyone. 40 and sunny here.

Well, we heard from the hospital yesterday regarding MOH's biopsy, and it was not the news we wanted to hear. The tumor is cancerous. She goes for more imaging next Monday, then we meet with the surgeon (generally recognized as the best one in these parts) to discuss our options. I will not stop praying, though. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Actually, she's taking this better than I am - she's a strong woman!!

We got up at 5:15 to get to the polling place. We were 7th and 8th in line. Nothing to report from the train room.

Now if you'll excuse me, there's a freshly brewed mocha calling my name. Have a good day everyone.

Johnny- Nice farm scenes, but shouldn't the fences be standing up to keep the animals in?:D Just pulling your leg. I hope everything turns out well for your wife.

Nah - those cows are so dumb, they haven't figured out how to step between the fence slats.

Good morning ........ We My wife decided to put up the Christmas Tree early so we did yesterday. ... 'tis the season...

Johnny ..... Sorry to hear the news. Prayers defiantly continuing for Dena. .... I spoke with my IL friends (Reggie and Mary Ann) who were with us iii Branson with you and Dena, and I told them about Dena. They are sorry to hear the news too. More prayers.

Toot ..... The ore train derailment was a big mess.

Curt ... We might go to FL in early December. However, it will be Tampa area instead of Orlando.

Have a nice day, everybody.

Christmas, Bah Humbug!! It is way to early to put up the Christmas tree!!!

Good Morning All. 52° and clear around here. Temperatures supposed to be in the 70's again today, perfect day for voting here in North Central TX. Dropped a couple of grand $$$ yesterday at the dentist office for two remaining crowns. It irritates me that I still have to pay the same for teeth cleaning as a person with all natural teeth when I have numerous crowns and implants. My teeth will outlast me now. After the dentist, I spent more time on the remodeling, minor setback as I wait for my wife to clean out the medicine cabinet so that I can remove it to put the new wall behind it. It was a bit harder yesterday because I couldn't hold the finishing nails with my lips while working because my mouth was numb! So I finished mowing the last acre and a half of the yard instead. Today's outdoor project is cutting up some more firewood from branches that I pruned off trees last spring. My current guesstimate is that I have enough wood already cut to heat the house until late January, with enough branches/deadwood to finish the season.
Later out in the train shed, it was back to the fence for a bit. I glue the mesh to a couple of poles and do other stuff while it dries. I tend to get into something else and forget to go back until the next day!:( I also spray-painted about 10' of track/ties in advance of ballasting it today. I am hoping to be able to find enough time to make a major push on ground cover in the upcoming weeks. I really need to reduce other life activities and concentrate on the layout. During the last week, I ran every one of my 70 active diesels for a few laps to ensure that they were all ready for the upcoming winter season. There are a couple that ended up on the RIP track, but I did fix that Bachmann one to put back into service. There's at least ten others residing in a box under the layout somewhere, mostly Tyco and like ones.
Here's a picture that I ran across yesterday. I did an entire build thread on the Bar Mills laser cut kit "Wicked Wanda's" a couple of years ago.

Here is a recent picture of it planted on the layout. I use it as a rooming house instead of a "bawdy house".

The outbuilding is a NuComp (no longer in business) structure, fence and propane tank are scratchbuilds.

Johnny - That farm area is coming along nicely. Continued prayers for Dena.
Curt-
I pulled a bonehead mistake applying the shingles initially on the flat roof in the wrong direction.
At least it wasn't on your house!
Printing Company looks layout ready. Looking real good.

Besides being Election Day, today is National Nachos Day. Easy to make and delicious to eat.
Everybody have a great day and be sure to vote often.

Found this while browsing on YouTube - great old stuff. New York Central (which is what I model) steam locos in 1928-29. Very cool. Enjoy.

Beautiful Morning here in Apache Junction - the sun is poking out from behind the Superstition Mountains a few miles east.
Got to run - Son and Daughter are making breakfast and I smell the coffee.

You guys wait till I leave town and then you heat up the Forum?

Johnny - sorry to hear the news on Dena's test results. Pray that they have caught it in time.
Things are improving rapidly on the medical front.

Good morning. 32 degrees with light snow.

Johnny - really sorry to hear about your wife. Hope that they can come up with a good treatment plan. Prayers for her. Nice photos of your layout. Also liked the NYC video. I love the old railroad videos.

Ray - That is one heck of a mess. Any idea of how long it took to clean it up?

Curt - Beautiful job on the printing company. Thumb up.gif

Louis - I have to agree with you about enjoying the turkey first. I am with Mark. Bah Humbug. We haven't put up a Christmas tree in years. Our kids are grown and out on their own. One thing that really bugs me is advertisers. They are obviously advertising for Christmas but they just can't say the word "Christmas". One exception is Hobby Lobby. Speaking of Hobby Lobby, we are going to have one in Bozeman. I stopped by Harbor Freight a few days ago and construction was going on next door and I found out that it is a Hobby Lobby.

Terry - Glad to see your wife wants to get out an vote. Hope she's feeling well. We voted a couple of weeks ago.

Willie - That boarding house is sweet. Nice build. Running locomotives on a regular basis is one thing that I do on a regular basis to make sure that they are all operating in good order. Many are parked on hidden staging tracks and I'll pull them out and let each one, with their train run for a half hour or so. Locos in engine facilities are usually rotated on a regular basis and also run for at least a half hour. I have some that are 30 years aol and with letting them run and lubricating them, they still run like new. Texas Motor Speedway is one of the few NASCAR tracks that I haven't been to. Maybe some day.

With the snow coming down, the train room sounds like a good place to be. Time to run some trains.

Here's a rail photo for today.

Good Morning Everyone.....rain over night and overcast right now in Wisconsin.

I can't believe the number of television commercials that geared towards for Christmas. After 39+ years in the shopping center business, Christmas came early and I never got into the Christmas mood until on Christmas Day we went to my wife's aunt's home. The aunt decorated the home in old fashioned decor and the house was in several national magazines. The first floor had over 150 candles and there were natural, firs of all sizes in each room.

I read the article in the December 2018 issue of Model Railroader and like where Eric Brooman removed all traces of graffiti from his rolling stock. While I have maybe two or three cars with graffiti tags, graffiti is an ugly fact of modern life real railroading deals with and this piece of realism does not have to be glorified on my layout. Just my opinion.

Johnny: Thoughts are with you and your wife.

Just had a "discussion" with the Mrs. on how a sump pump operates. She doesn't understand why the water level is so low or where the water comes from to get into the sump pit....!

That's all for now.

Greg

Question: Why don't we just have Christmas all 12 months of the year ... Then I won't have to carry around the Montgomery Ward catalog all the time as I did growing up?

OK - I knew that I had a train photo here some place.
This was made in Willits, but we got there at 4pm and the depot and everything was closed up.

Your post brought back childhood memories. I remember when the Sears catalog would come in the mail, and we would fight over who got it first. Would many nights drooling over the new toys and games. My parents would have us circle what we wanted. Oh good times!

Good afternoon.

Johnny: Sorry to hear your wife's results are bad. Will pray for her recovery. On the bright side, the cure rate has never been better. it's fortunate that she has a strong constitution, the treatments are very draining.

Sherrel: Montgomery Ward? You are really dating yourself.

Mike: The arrival of the "Wish Book" gave us something to look forward to.

One thing that really bugs me is advertisers. They are obviously advertising for Christmas but they just can't say the word "Christmas".

Chet: Thank you! This has bothered me for years. Note that they refrain from saying Independence Day and Memorial Day also.

Willie: The boarding house is fantastic.

Louis: Don't change!

Today, is a miserable, wet day. I do have to venture out to go to the Post Office. Beyond that I have nothing planned. We haven't put up a tree in three years, because we spend Christmas with our son and grand children. We board the Cat, so no one is here to enjoy the tree. I do still decorate the outside, although that is scaled down to what I can still do.
