Ray: Many years back in the Town of Stockton California, if I'm correct, they did just that !! To the best of my recollection that was a true story. It was filmed as though it took place about 1957/58 if my memory serves me right ? Yes, American Graphitti is correct.

LOUIS- You're right on both cards.
How about a SPARKY LYLE card ? Signed by the ORIOLES but played with the Red Sox then the jankees.
Time for Hot Tea with honey. Throat still scratchy. Back later.
Phil

Phil, I have several Sparky Lyle cards, but my cards are still packed away. I can't say for sure the ones I have. I know I have Topps from 73-78 because I have complete sets of those years, but before and after that I would have to look.

In 1977 Lyle was the first American League relief pitcher to win the Cy Young award.

Lyle also played with Texas, Philadelphia and the White Sox, but I don't recall the Orioles connection. It would not surprise me if Earl Weaver had tried to sign him. Earl was fixated on the slider and Lyle had one of the best. An interesting bit of trivia is Ted Williams taught Lyle the slider. Ted said "the slider is the only pitch I could not hit even if I knew it was coming".

Baseball Cards were my original hobby and I hope to get back to them someday now that I have a big playpen. :)

I hope your health continues to improve.

Thanks for talking baseball with me. :)

Bruette: I have a a 93 % EER gas hot air unit in my attic that does that same thing. I found that that taking the rubber tube vacuum line off of the large metal diaphragm in front of the burner box and just blowing into it will clear it up and the igniter will work.

Thank you! That is good to know, I really appreciate you sharing that with me.

Looking into how those pressure switches are made it's no surprise. The membrane is so thin I can see how it could easily get dry and stick. I've only lived here a little over a year and it's the first time it has caused me any grief.

The Original "Hammerin' Hank"
1546406524817.png

January 1st is the birthday of longtime Tigers star Hank Greenberg. Hammerin’ Hank was one of the greatest sluggers of his era, leading the AL in home runs four times (331 for his career) and batting .313 in his 13 seasons. Greenberg’s career slugging mark of .670 was fourth-best all time at his retirement. The Detroit first baseman was a five-time All-Star and two-time MVP, and led the Tigers to the World Series four times and claimed two titles. As with many players of his era, he lost several seasons to military service during World War II. Greenberg played his final year with the last-place Pirates in 1947 before retiring. Greenberg continued to be involved in baseball, as he worked with Bill Veeck as general manager for the Cleveland Indians and later served as vice president and part owner of the White Sox. Greenberg was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1956. (AP/Photo) Baseball Digest

Looking at your streetcar pics Louis, if they had 2 headlights instead of 1, they would be very similar to the first Trolley Buses in Auckland, NZ in styling.

Good morning everyone,

Its back to work after having 11 days off, so a bit sluggish! I guess all good things must end(as they say) Quiet morning here with no precipitation, and temps holding steady at 28 degrees.

Have a great day everyone!

Yes , the first one ran in July, now doing up to 34 trips/day, aiming for 50 trips. It was intended to have this operating by 2015, but technical difficulties held it up. Apparently it was harder to do than the driverless trucks they already had in operation.. The cost is said to be US$940Million, 80% over the original budget. That's a lot of wages, eh.
Yeah, but look at all the money they're saving.
Personally, I couldn't afford to save that much money.

Good morning fellers. Gray start to my day today. Daughter started back to school today. I have neglected my layout some. I started building it last year and well....I haven't progressed with it outside of track and wiring. Now I can't even run trains. Atleast not until I do a full cleaning of my track. I can't even get a locomotive to move on my layout. I don't exactly have the time for trains at the moment anyways. The perks of having a new addition to the family.

Good Morning All. 30° and cloudy. So far the freezing rain and sleet is staying south of us and is clobbering the Dallas/Ft Worth area. It's as close as 25 miles away and may not drift this far north. It's actually a pattern that we see many times, it's moving NE. Still expecting temperatures in the 60's by Friday.
Today's the first day of work for my wife at H & R Block, where she will attempt to explain the new tax laws to folks that don't pay taxes anyway. It's too early to file, but they can apply and pay dearly for an early advance against their expected refund or in most cases their Earned Income Credit, which is a fancy term for redistribution of wealth from my pocket to theirs. They will all be expecting more this year, but she will have to explain that the larger refunds only go to those that actually earn an income and pay taxes to begin with. Those clients will come later this month. As a matter of conversation, she usually asks them what they are going to do with the money. Number one is generally "get a family member out of jail", followed closely by "pay the rent". Not surprisingly in third is going to the casino on the reservation about 10 miles north in Oklahoma.
Had a nice visit from my granddaughter and her parents yesterday, but they didn't bring the mini-bike as planned. Whoops! They needed to add gas and oil to it before they could run it and since they use a lawn service, they don't own a gas can! No time for those things before they left home. I have both but they didn't say anything until they got here. Duh!
Nothing new to report from the train shed, as I didn't even visit there yesterday. I'll make up for it today.

Phil - Glad to know that you are feeling better.
Mike - I remember those days of eleven days of time off when I was still working. I miss them!
Louis - Although I saw a couple of posts recently, I miss Rodney's posts here on the forum. Good to read that all is well with him.
I don't see Memorial Stadium in that map of Baltimore that you posted this morning!:p
Sherrel - Glad to read that you're feeling a little better.

Saw a few new faces in the Coffee Shop yesterday, Jim, Scott and AmtrakCr71408. Glad that you guys could stop by. Don't be strangers, come back often. And a hearty re-welcome to Justin, the new papa.

Well time to start remembering that it is 2019 when I write dates. Harder to remember now that I am retired and don't have to sign stuff at work all of the time, or write checks every time I purchase something!
Everybody have a great day. Looks like crappy weather for everyone except Phil and Curt.
