Opinions on Bachmann EZ track for a beginner

If you use carpet, don't use shag. Gets in the gears, trust me. Try using cut pile. The cut out shapes make excellent small valleys. You might think about using carpet nails to hold the track in place. Placing a nail at the edge of the plastic, using the head of the nail to hold it in place. The...

    Experiment with photo paper

http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/LCRRinHO/Structures/CPR%20Pumphouse/ClampingRivetStrip.jpg When I saw this image, I was struck by how much the boiler looked like a 9mm pistol shell, with the head crimped out. With a cone roof made from a coffee filter, what do you guys think? I don't...

    Lessons learned!

One day, seven years ago, I walked into my LHS for the first time. I walked out with the Sept '03 issue of MR in my pocket, featuring the new BLI 2-6-6-4. http://www.trains.com/mrr/objects/images/rpr0903_10.jpg And $350 worth of HO B'mann EZ track. Next, my best friend talked me into...

how did you pick a rail line

When I was about six, my mother took me on the Santa Fe, out of Dallas to Big Spring, Tx., to visit her parents. We rode in a coach, that converted into upper and lower sleeper berths.....we were in an upper. I remember mamma wanting me to go to sleep. All I wanted to do was look out the window...

How to hide a switch track machine?

I've seen all kinds of generic "equipment boxes" scattered up and down the track. Boxes to hide the electronics associated with any given turnout or signal. Or some kind of detection box.

    Brand New

Get some track laying software. AnyRail, WinRail and RTS are track laying programs as opposed to drawing programs. RTS(free) is limited to Atlas track. AnyRail has a free version, limited to 50 track pieces. I like WinRail. It is not free, but is the easiest to learn (to me). XtrakCad (free)...

    Thoughts for a Train

I've found a good place to start. The table is on casters, so I can get all the way around. table is 35"x60", curves are tight 9 3/4", turnouts are #4. I got a lot of points to file. When I have room, I will bolt it to a wall in a corner and run extensions off each end. On the west side, turn...
