I picked up an older Pentrex VHS recently called Michigan Ore Lines, I knew a little about the LS&I before watching the video but afterwords, my interest was piqued. Though gone now, the LS&I had a number of second hand BN U30Cs. I always liked the BN colors and had some old BB U30Cs lying around, they don't fit my era or area so it was an easy decision to convert them. I have two more left, one will be a clean green running example, the other will be one of the Detroit Edison engines they acquired for parts and ended up leasing out for some extra cash.

Here's the original...

I also finished the second of two acquisitions from the Tankist roster. Here she is in her original finish on the left...

Needs an antenna and front number boards but she's 98% there, this was my first attempt at a full paint job.

Amazing work! Thanks for posting! I grew up in the area, and saw the LS&I MANY MANY times. The C30-7's still run, on occasion, I think there's 3 U30C's on property, stored. Those CEFX AC4400's do the job quite well.

I've always wanted to model a U30C and C30-7 for LS&I.

Gary,

That diner is looking mighty fine! I think I have one of those tucked away somewhere -- and seeing how your interior is coming along gives me a guide on what to (try to) do with mine.

As your work proceeds, I'd love to see more of your pictures!

Regards,
Tom Stockton
