Yes I'd like that Karl, good to know before I buy if these things can handle that section of track.

Just say when Ken. They'd love a good run!

Karl's WM RS2s switching coal mine - 1.jpg

They haven't been off the home tracks since the last time they switch out the mine on Howard Zane's layout!

Good morning. 52°, and sunny.

Ken: SD9s, should definitely take a PECO #5, and an Atlas #4, Don't know why you are having this difficulty. My opinion, go with Atlas RS3s. The Athearn Body has better detail, but the drive stinks. The Atlas drive, both Kato and later are the best.

Baldwin power at its best, PRR class BP20. note Main Tracks ballasted with cinders, instead of stone. Signals on bridge at right are CNJ style color light signals. No PRR Position light signals until East of Perth Amboy.

Good evening. Another nice day. We listed the MIL's house for sale. Hopefully, it's priced right.

Eric: Pain killers, really don't work...neither do anti inflammatory. My shoulder has been bad for three days now, and nothing helps. Gettig old is no fun.

David:

My guess for the photo is 1958. I'm not sure when the Single Dulux stripe replaced the 5 stripe scheme, but the Shark looks too clean so it must have been recent. Compare it to the P70 coaches that appear to be quite grungy. I'm not sure what that contraption behind the block wall. Asbury Park has changed a lot since that photo was taken.

Joe: For your shoulder pain you might give, Super Blue Stuff/ Blue Goo a try. It's a greasless rub with a fair amount of menthol in it. It doesn't take too much to feel the effect, just be very careful not to touch your eyes with the same fingers you used to apply the stuff with, as the Menthol will really do a number on your eye/s for a while! Don't ask how I know this.

Bob Krones' picture of the Baldwin Shark sure is a good one alright. It is interesting how fresh and new looking it is and there is quite a contrast, as you bring up between it and the grungy coaches. Thanks for posting it.

As far as the apparatus the other side of the block wall, it a bit intriguing looking.

Hope your shoulder gets too feeling better.

Good Morning Everyone. 77 degrees and mostly clear this morning. Had to run the A/C last night for the first time this season. A little later start than normal. I actually got a little time in the train shed yesterday and finished painting the windows on a simple DPM kit that I am assembling. Warm and windy yesterday, so some of the yard will be available for mowing today. Didn't even get an opportunity to set foot in the garden though.
Eric - Don't know about your dentist, but all of my extractions and other surgery have been painless. The first time, the dentist prescribed some Percocet. The bottle is still on the shelf, unopened. I took a single Advil that night. I've had three more surgeries and told him not to prescribe the painkiller as I didn't seem to need it. Wonder if I could make some money in the local college town selling those pills? He's OK with me drinking beer 8 hours later!
Joe -
Getting old is no fun.
Boy do I hear you on that one. First it was the blood pressure, then reading glasses, crowns and implants for the mouth, hearing aids for the ears, and Viagra for threesomes. I guess that I should be glad that's all for now!!! Not only is it no fun, but it is expensive...beats the alternative though. It does remind me of the lyrics of an Albert King song from the 60's, "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die".
Well onward with the day. Counting today's upcoming trip, I will have put in over 300 miles in three days, then it's back to being a hermit until Sunday when I am the guest of honor at my daughter's for a Father's Day BBQ.
You all have a great day.

Willie

Good morning.

I hope to arrive home by this weekend. I have only been home three nights in the past four weeks. I certainly am tired of living out of a travel bag.

Cheers

I really hope it goes ok. Right now I'm wondering if the swelling has subsided enough.
I hear ya about peddling the stuff. At $40 a pop around these parts I was tempted when I was given 2 scripts for Loretabs when I went to the ER with the strep throat last November. I never filled either of the scripts however. Suits me fine to drink my painkillers.

I'm just having this feeling something will come up and he won't be able to do anything .. today.
Guess we'll find in less than 2 hours. Appt. is at 0945.
Funny, I had 3 people call me yesterday asking how things went.
I'll bet no one calls this afternoon.
We'll see.

Good morning. We had some overnight showers which is nice and gives me a break from dragging hoses all over the yard to keep the grass watered. It's 45 degrees with a high expected in the mid 70's.

Eric - Good luck at the dentist. The link to the photo did not work.

Karl - Great photo. Where was it taken?

Good morning. Cloudy and cool, 65°, while the chance of meaningful rain has diminished to under 50%.

Garry: Hopefully things will calm down and you will be able to spend some quality time at home.

Eric: Best of luck, with the dentist, today. Your link didn't work for me either.

Willie: Safe trip and enjoy Father's Day,

David: The Passenger Sharks were already on the way out when the photo was taken. They were determined to be unfit for main line service, and were exiled to secondary and branchline service, along with the ALCO PA1s/PB1s. The NY and Long Branch was, (is), a densely used commuter line, Linking the Northern and Central Jersey Shore with Newark, Jersey City and New York. Back when the photo was taken, the line was a 66 mile, shared asset, running from South Amboy to Bay Head Junction. It was owned, two thirds by the PRR, and one third by the Jersey Central. Although a branch, It was the perfect spot for the Sharks to run out their days, as it was at minimum, a heavy duty two (+), track main line operation. The Sharks replaced K4s Steam power in 1957, and remained in service until 1964.

What appears to be a CNJ lite power move through South Amboy.

We have to go back to the MIL's house, tomorrow, to spruce it up a bit. Has not seen a broom or dust mop in quite a while. Woke up this morning, aching from every joint in my body...Two extra strength Tylenol will work, until the Mobic kicks in.

Joe - I sure appreciate all of the info you are putting out on the forum about the eastern railroads. Not growing up in the east, but rather the west and having spent so much time with the Milwaukee Road and the Northern Pacific, I really never concentrated much on eastern railroads for many years but always have had interest in them. That's where railroading began.

Yep! As I suspected. Still too swollen.
Try again Monday at 3:30.

Guess I'll nap out for a while.

Happy Morning All! Donut and Coffee, Francine. Would like more, but am in a hurry!

JOe: Too bad the Sharks didn't make it. I always thought they had a verry nice design. That is a GREAT photo!

Garry: Now you know why that I threw my suitcase in the trash can when I retired. Hope everything is going well with you. You sort of had a double whammy there.

Willie: On the getting old part - Wait till you really get something wrong. LoL

kEN: hOPE tHE lOANERS FROM kARL (aww crap- cap lock on) work out. Enjoyed the discussion on the RS's.

Eric .. Didn't call - figured that you may not feel like talking. Tried to look you up on FB - there must be thousands of Eric Whites. - but link did not work for me either. Losing all your teeth - what's your plan now?
Pretty hard to 'gum' your way threw life!

Gotta move - supposed to be 83 today - was a nice 76 yesterday.

Cool. Dentist office just called and wants me to come in at 0845 instead of 3:30.
I'd much rather be done with it early in the morning.
E

That's not the Luce in the background but thanks Eric. By the way, get a hair cut.

I know that's not the Luce. We were on the Luce.
Not to worry Chet, my hair is much shorter these days.

I vaguely recall there being several FFGs parked nearby that day.
Remember was 30 years ago.
