Good Morning All. Clear and 68° to start the weekend here. Supposed to make it into the 90's today, surprisingly for the first time this year (officially), very slightly ahead of the 30 year average. However it's not unusual to get a day or two in May above 90°.
I'm ready for sausage, cheese and egg biscuits this morning Francine. Make it two with a nice cool glass of orange juice.
Started the day yesterday with a bit of mowing, paused and pruned some wildly growing limbs on a number of trees (I have over 200 to mow around!) that have been slapping me in the face lately, but didn't finish the yard, I maybe got 2/3 acre done.
Something to look forward to today. Lots of other branches to go. I'll get far more yard work done Monday and Tuesday when a cool front keeps the high temperatures below 80°.
I had a little time in the train shed yesterday and in between the ongoing project of adding ground cover, and running trains; I did some more assembly of the Masonic Lodge. Here are the first three walls attached to the base.
Not sure why there is a floorplan printed on the base, those details if modeled would be extremely hard to see. That being said, I am still considering starting the stairway against that RH wall (from this view); as I think that it might be visible in the next view, even when the second floor and roof are added, especially if I add a light bulb. Hmmmh! Maybe an event center with a band and lots of partying citizens!
Another head-on view.
There will eventually be a balcony in front of those second floor doors.
This is "officially" the mid-point, as I am halfway through step five of nine. Most steps have several paragraphs and sub-steps.
BTW these pictures bring out things that cannot be seen in person, even when wearing the Optivisors.
Despite some grumbling, this has been an enjoyable project and I think that it is going well.
Patrick - Heck, I misplace tools and detail parts right in front of me on the workbench all of the time! At least I don't have to walk upstairs to find them.
Garry - Prayers for your surgery. At least they're not removing a useful body part.
Johnny - Patience my friend. Rome wasn't built in a day. I am looking at certain projects (and have been for several years) that I know that I won't get to until 2021. If I spent eight hours a day on the layout then it would be just like another job; not a retirement hobby! Well OK, I participated long before I retired.
Dave - Great story about the jar of sand. How neat!
Sherrel - Not sure how much you paid, but regular gas around here is at $2.39/gal even at the name brand stations. Didn't check Buc-ees though.
Regarding your statement about "free" stuff; it seems like the more free stuff that you give out, the more free s**t people leave in return. Look at LA, SF and Seattle for proof.
Chet - Hard to believe that there is only one town on a layout of that size. But then of course they
are modeling Montana!
Saw that Dr. John passed away Thursday. I saw him and his band several times in the late 60's - mid 70's. Bizarre character, unusual but very good music and a great entertainer overall. He sure could give that piano a workout. Here's a clip from 1996 with Eric Clapton on guitar:
That's it for this morning. Everybody have a great day.
