Hi all, I'm still feeling fairly lousy for some unknown reason. I checked my Blood Pressure and that seem to be fine, 106/75 pl pulse of 95. I had just come in from watering the front lawn by hand an hour. So I don't know what to make of my situation? Damn and I was hoping to work on my layout this weekend.

DAVID--I have had high blood pressure for years It is controlled very well by medication. There is no symptoms from high B/P but low pressure can cause light a light headed feeling especially when standing up quickly from a chair or something like that. I have a low kidney function which was caused by a long term medication I had been taking. Out of a normal score of 60, mine is at a constant 22-24 year after year which my kidney specialist says that I have nothing to worry about, my kidneys will out last me. BUT, I do get the odd day that I feel very tired and have no desire to do anything and generally not feeling that great. At 75 I guess it comes with the territory. Usually the next day I am back to my old self again. David, if this sick feeling persists, I urge you to see a doctor, you never know what is going on. We aren't spring chickens anymore.

Good morning gang!
Looks to be a great day, highs in the upper 80s. Swimming and cookout with the inlaws, and the grandkids (outlaws).
Ken....Atlas Classic RS3 on Facebook, HO Yardsale, nib, 60 bucks plus shipping from VT....undecorated even!!.....they are out there!

Good Morning All. 75 degrees, clear and no wind this morning. Spent a lot of time mowing the yard and visiting the swimming pool yesterday. 3"+ of rain and 90 degree temps makes everything grow rapidly. More of the same today. Looks like I have an indoor repair job today, as the dishwasher has come loose. A few longer screws should fix it. Out in the garden, I picked the first squash of the season and lots more tomatoes and peppers. Today is another picking of green beans.
In the train shed, I finished up a DPM structure that I started earlier in the week and did some more scenery. Ran a few trains while glue or paint dried on various projects.
Chet - When the kids were here, I had two 50'x50' plots to garden. I have cut back to just one now, and I don't always plant the whole thing. To me it's not only a source of the freshest food around, but a good way to keep up the physical activity. The season here is split, starts in early February and ends around Thanksgiving; with very little activity between the end of June and the beginning of September.
Sherrel - I know that you weren't really trying to scare me. HaHaHa. I have been blessed with better than average health compared to some of my friends.
Joe - Thanks for all of the interesting Shark info, both real and model.
Garry - Welcome home. First time for me as well on the video. Very interesting.
David - Watch that health. Although 106/75 seems a little low to me, I average about 135/82, it may not be for you. As Erik posted, it may just be dehydration. I am always careful to drink the recommended eight 8-ounce glasses a day (usually more in the summer), as the hot dry conditions around here are conducive to unwanted fatigue. I supplement it with several 12-oz adult beverages as needed! Even an hour of watering the yard in the heat may be stretching it.

Heading out the door for my daily 1 1/2 mile walk. Wife says that I should skip one day a week, but I haven't done so in about a month. It clears the mind. At least now that I am retired, I can go early in the morning everyday instead of just on the weekends. After work in the triple-digit heat did tend to make them shorter, of course I could carry/drink a beer then. Well I still can, but then I wouldn't get as much done later!!!
Everyone have a great day.

Willie

Good morning. 76° and sunny.

Garry: Ah, the steam version of the Passenger Shark. The guy who first hired me as a clerk on the PRR, was an engineer who ran those beasts out of Crestline Ohio. He hated them, even on relatively flat territory, they were unbalanced and slippery, as the final segment of the video indicated, and hard to start a train with. Not surprising, that the PRR quickly abandoned the program and dieselized. I understand there is a group trying to raise enough money to build a brand new version to run on fan trips.... Interesting locomotive though, with lots of eye appeal.

David: If the condition persists, you should see your doctor.

I spent some time working on the freight station project. i glued on corner braces to support the walls and floors/roof. I have to mask the windows and blacken the inside walls to shield light from bleeding through
the walls. This is taking longer than I anticipated because I am considering interior details as well as lighting. it's going to be a foreground model, so the three foot rule doesn't work with it .

Spotswood 10-31-2015.jpg

Bennett Levin's PRR Car 120 on the rear of a Special on the Amboy Secondary in October 2015. Car 120, The Pennsylvania, was the office car that Carried the remains of Robert Kennedy, in 1968. It is an extensively modernized Z74 Office Car. The train is pictured passing the Camden and Amboy railroad memorial, in Spotswood, NJ. The C&A was the first railroad built in NJ, and depending on the Historian, was either the second or third built in the US. Note the old rail and large stone sleepers. The rail and stones were unearthed, when AT&T ran Fiber Optic Cable under the ROW, where the second track used to be. The stones were mostly cast aside and were visible along the ROW, especially in the winter. Most of the C&A, is still intact, The portion from South Amboy to Cranbury is still a very active freight line, while the line between Robinsville and Bordenton is still somewhat active. From Bordentown to Camden, the line hosts NJT's Light Rail "River Line" as well as overnight freight service. The portion from Robinsville to Hightstown was abandoned prior to 1964, and from Hightstown to Cranbury in the Conrail era.

Good morning. 86f at 11:30, humid as heck- T/S's due starting about 1400 hours. Rain skirted my area yesterday.

Hope all have a nice weekend.

Phil

I was doing a little "window shopping" today. (i.e. internet searching)
And came across this: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Athearn-Genesis-HO-G68637-SD70ACe-UP-DCC-p/ath-g68637.htm
I had no idea the "Katy" was around late enough have such a modern engine.
I wasn't particularly keen on the paint scheme but did a little research and found the Katy actually did run this on one engine #1988.
I thought it would be cool to have a "Katy" in the stabble. One of my favorite Blues Brothers tunes is "She Caught The Katy". Until hanging out with your guys, I had no idea it was about a dude's girlfriend taking a train ride out of town.

But alas, it's out of stock at my usual dealer.
Then I thought I'd check out something in the BNSF black & orange on a SD70ACe. Both of which I've been pining for for quite some time.
DCC & sound if you please.
Didn't have much luck.
E.

Eric - Hate to burst the bubble, but that is a UP locomotive in their "Heritage" series, from 2005. MKT (Katy) ceased in 1988, hence the #1988.

"She Caught the Katy" - Indeed the most famous version (and my favorite) is by the Blues Brothers. The song was written by Taj Mahal in 1968, and was also recorded by some other artists including James Taylor, The Youngbloods, Albert King, and Huey Lewis.

Eric - Added info regarding the song. I have all of the versions except Huey Lewis.

Willie

Side 1, Song 1 on the BB soundtrack. I think I'll burn that one to CD this afternoon.
I wonder if I could fit 2 full albums on a single CD.

I didn't know Huey Lewis did that tune.

I'm feeling better this morning thank goodness but still not out of the woods as they say, of course, I didn't realize I was in them either. LoL My BP this morning after I'd been up a while was 99/64 pulse of 80, I think the pulse is a bit high but maybe because I fighting something?

Happy Friday. Y'all.
Running late this morning. Feel much better, getting a good night's sleep really does help.

David: The only Baldwin Shark mass produced in cast metal or plastic in HO was the freight version. The most recent examples are those produced by Bachmann and BLI. Both are models of the later RF16 model.
There was also an RF15 version, with 1500 HP. The only BP20 (2000 HP passenger version) produced was in Brass. Someone also produced Resin shells meant to go over Proto 2000 PA frames. Rumor has it that BLI is planning a passenger version.
When I said that they were not suited for main line operation, it concerned reliability. They were not as reliable as other power, so when the PRR reduced E-W long haul passenger service in 1957 - 1958 in response to the recessions that occurred during those years, the Baldwins were surplus. Since they still had considerable time on their equipment trust, they were Banished (reassigned) to the NY&LB, enabling the PRR to replace it's remaining steam passenger power.
As with all Baldwin built diesel power, when they were at 100%, they out performed anyone else' diesel power. However, they had numerous design flaws that caused reliability issues for which there were no solution.
A modern equivalent, would be Amtrak's HHP8 which were introduced in 2002, and were retired in 2014, due to insurmountable reliability issues.

Again you've brought forth some very interesting information. It never dawned on me that any of the Loco's had design flaws to them, especially ones that couldn't be fixed. Especially when you bring up the point that the Baldwin Diesels outperformed anyone else's when working at 100% it seems strange they would have flaws that were un-repairable.

I think the little 2-8-0 Consolidation's I have, that Roundhouse put out were models of the Baldwin made loco's too?, and they are a good runner too! Of course a model the real thing is entirely different.

David..heat exhaustion? Dehydration? Would a cool bath help?

Thanks a lot for the concern, when I watered the front lawn it was cool with a bit of a breeze blowing and the entire front yard was in shade due to several medium size Oaks on the West side of the yard. So that certainly didn't get me exhausted at all. I think I just picked up some kind of bug of one type or another. As I said I am feeling a bit better today.

Thanks for your concern, it appreciated. Blood pressure can sure be a deciding factor at times but I think mine is ok. That's true, we aren't spring chickens any more, I did see a new Dr. who is local just about 3 months ago but maybe I should give him a call.

Thanks too for your concern, it may be my BP but I'm done plenty of hard work
around here so I don't think so but I should probably run it by the Dr. I do tend to drink a fair amount of water during the summer along with coffee and try to eat right. At least I think so and I don't drink either as a normal rule but I do have some JD home.

Have a good day everyon, I'm going to try and get some train time in.

Huey Lewis - It was a 2005 live recording with a group known as Umphrey's McGee; on a recording made in Chicago on New Years Day.
I can usually fit two albums on a single CD if the albums are pre-1985.

Say Willie:

David - Glad that you are feeling better, good enough to double-post! LOL

Willie: Thanks for well wishes!

About the double posts: I think this site is a bit weird! This same thing has happened to me numerous times before and I've caught it, most of the time, and delete the one of the posts. Why it happens is beyond me as I only click once on the Post button!

Just to again show you how screwie the site is, I wanted to reply to your post with a quote and clicked that button. Then the circular thing comes up and starts spinning and I must have waited 15 minutes and it never would put your post in a new window so I copied it and did it myself.

I wonder if this will double post?? LoL

If it's any consolation, if I edit a post, 9 times out of 10 it won't save. Have to copy then delete the original and paste the copy back into a new post.

Good evening. 69*F, clear and calm here in the "Free" State.

Karl thanks for the tip. I don't do Facebook but I've already seen a lot of them on eBay, I'm sure some of them will still be there when I'm ready to buy. I'll see you here tomorrow at 2!

David - hope you feel better.

Garry - welcome home! Interesting vids, both the SP train stuck in the snow, and the T1.

Joe - always enjoy reading your history lessons about NJ rail lines. I remember watching the RFK funeral train live on TV as it made its way thru the Corridor, my family had just moved to Maryland from Michigan ~6 months earlier.

* * *

Today was one of those days when I wondered why I'm even in this f______ hobby! I went to fix one of my industrial structures that got a few pieces knocked loose during the removal of the old stand-up freezer when somebody bumped into the benchwork. I figured this would be a ~45-minute job; wrong!! There are several interconnected pipe assemblies that have to line up exactly right. Problem is, after I get the first piece in the correct position, I go to do the second and that knocks the first piece back out of place - and vice versa. I felt like a dog chasing its tail. Plus, I had a few pieces break on me during the struggle - that slowed me down as well. I was working on this stupid thing for over five hours when I decided I better go to bed. Hopefully I'll be able to get it finished in the morning...

Have a good night, from the looks of things we'll all probably be in the new Shop tomorrow!
