Trying to understand Kato numbering system

I am looking to buy my grandson a Kato Southern Pacific Daylight loco and the cars. I see the 10 car sets have part numbers 106-060,061,062,and 063. What is the difference? I assume this has something to do with date of issue with the higher number being the most recent. Is this correct?

Thanks

It appears 060 is the ten car set and 061, 062, and 063 are the two car articulated chair cars so 106-060 should be what you’re looking for.
I’m just starting my first morning coffee so maybe someone can confirm?

Thanks for your reply. The sets I got the numbers from are from this listing on Ebay.

While I have no intention on buying this set it shows 106-060-063 as 10 car sets. My guess is they are different issue dates but I'm not sure

Thanks

Ok I see the numbering but now I’m confused too as the Kato website shows different.
Anyone care to enlighten us?

You are exactly correct.
106-060 is production from 2008
106-061 is production from 2011
106-062 is production from 2017
106-063 is production from 2021

There is some variation in the car numbers between the sets, but there are overlapping numbers too. The set 060 is more similar to the 062 set, and the 061 set more similar to the 063 set.
