Running Bear's Coffee Shop LXIV

Ken in VA, is your cat dribbling? We once had a cat that we got as a stray kitten. When he was older he went missing and I found him under the house in a weak condition. Took him to the Vet and was told the dribbling etc was a sign of Kidney failure. He had to be put down.

Sorry to hear this, Ken. Also could be that he either ate something that had been poisoned, or was intentionally poisened.
Any kids around with air rifles to worry about? I think you are a little far away from Greg - lol.

Terry - Still waiting to hear on the Service Manager?

Thanks to all who offered suggestions on the pilot repair (no - I am not talking about myself!). Let's see .. mailing plus repair will just about cover the cost of a resistance soldering unit .. maybe its time?

Ken in VA Your "return it" was the first of my thoughts, however, I only paid a C-note plus $13 shipping and these are pretty hard to find for less than 250-300. I'll just treat it as another challange! If I was still living in KC or ABQ - it would have already been repaired.

Ken in MD - I have a couple unopened tubes of JB in the drawer .. maybe I try that first. What was the 'Bryalcream' Ad - "A little dab will do ya"?

Karl - Bet you could fix that in 5 min!

Curt- I like your kit there, but you are going to have to tell me again what it is? Paint looking good.

Johnny in MO and Tony in MA - You 2 keep me smiling with your wit and remarks! Keep on Keeping on!

Call Arnie's Trains in Westminster. When I lived there, they had a really great repair guy there.

Man I can't keep up with y'all. Already started a new one and I didn't even notice. I need to be more active on here.

I couldn't really tell if he was dribbling. He stayed in the one place in the woods for some time until I took a plastic tub down there. I was doing to try to pick him up and put him in the tub and carry it to my garage so he wouldn't be attacked by the coyotes around here at night. When he saw me coming with the tub he got up and walked over to my yard shed were he sometimes hides under during the day.

Good morning fellow Rail Benders and Spike Drivers,
Hi Flo and Francine, Quite a lively discussion going on here at Jeffreys' Dinner!

Chet - My dad did not see action before the war ended. My uncle (Dad's brother) was a medic in the ETO - he never liked to talk about his experiences, though. When we lived in Spain, we traveled throughout western Europe, and visited the huge cemetery in Ardennes (Belgium). I can still remember being overwhelmed with emotion realizing the sacrifice those guys made so countries like ours could be free. (I'd rather not say my feelings about what's been done with that freedom over the years.)

Johnny: I certainly agree about the loss of Our Freedoms over the years! I feel very firmly that Trump will turn things around!

Howdy ...

Yesterday, we went to Louisville and back for dinner. The family from Cincinnati came from the other direction so we could meet there. Nice dinner, but the distance to Louisville is 200 miles one way from here, and there were rain storms all of the way back.

Garry: That sure sounds like it must have been quite a grueling drive back home?

Johnny - I also visited that same cemetery in Belgium. Quite emotional. Just before I got out of the Navy we were home ported in Gaeta and we took a trip to visit the monastery at Monte Casino, about a 45 mile drive, which we bombed into rubble and it had been rebuilt. We made some good friends there. We were in civilian clothes and I was rather good with the Italian language by then and when they found out that we were American servicemen, we couldn't pay for anything. Couldn't pay for a meal, hotel room, drinks or anything. The people still remembered what the Americans did for them. I am still in touch with some of them. One family came over to the US on business a few years ago and stopped by to visit. We took them to both Yellowstone and Glacier park. They really enjoyed that.

I also visited Normandy which was another emotional visit. We did have time to travel through Europe bu both rail and car and there were still some places that had not completely rebuilt from the war. Even in London when we were there in 1967 there were still a lot of signs of war damage that had not been totally repaired.

Chet: I'm very sure that was very emotional.

Willie and Curt - I'm guessing MHO's belief is based on the fact that car interiors DO react quickly to the heater or A/C. I think maybe if I had a dozen of these heat pumps working in unison, that might achieve the necessary air flow-to-volume ratio for a quick temp change!:D

Ken: Just point out the inside area difference as well as ask her how long does it take your car to warm up when it cold to begin with?

Good morning gang
54 degrees and clear, going to a high of 65!:D

The USS Caitlin?

Karl: LOL

Afternoon All,

Supposed to be in the 90's in the next day or so. It's been breezy lately so we really don't feel the full impact. Worked on the building again today for a couple of hours. Tomorrow I need to add "glass" and window shades. I'm sure that will be tedious but it has to be done.

VA Ken- I don't envy your trip to Richmond. I have been through there several times and at different times of the day and the traffic is always horrible. Good luck with the VA.

Karl- Sorry to hear about your cat.

Willie- Right now I have about 10 hours into it and I am really enjoying the build. I have also learned a lot about painting and weathering structures.

Chet- Nice job on the crossings. I have started using sheet styrene for mine and I know a modeler that uses cork roadbed.

Terry- Fingers crossed for you.

Johnny- Not the dreaded "P" word!;)

Beady- You will have to give us a critique on the VR glasses. They sound pretty cool, but so much of that kinda of stuff falls short of the claims.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt: The building along with the windows and doors looks great!

Find someone nearby with a resistance soldering unit..

Say Sherrel: as Karl said try and find someone competent that does ristance soldering.

Hump day guys.
I'm working from home again today. A septic tank service is coming today to do a state required septic tank pump-out. I got a letter from the county noting that I had been living here for 5 years and that the tank has to be pumped once every 5 years. They even have a form I have to fill out and send back in.
The cat isn't around this morning. I don't know where he went. I checked under the shed and around in the woods the best I could see.

Good morning. It's raining and 53.
Looks like the service manager is doing his usual "let them figure it out" lack of communication. We'll see if he's still gone today.

The service manager was here when I arrived, but left a couple of minutes later. Still no word on what he's doing. Hopefully he just came in to turn in his badge and gun...

Good morning, everyone. Hi, Flo - - I'm HONGRY this mornin' - I'll take coffee, scrambled eggs, really crisp bacon, and a couple of sourdough doughnuts.

62 here in SW MO, heading for 83 today and nice and sunny. Then 3 days of rain and storms, then 3 days of sun and warmth! --sigh-- At work this morning, then taking the afternoon off. Heading for my LHS and a DIY store, then home to do some yardwork.

Curt - that building is looking really nice. What do you use for the weathering on it? So far, being new to the hobby, I haven't done any weathering, but I've got several structures that need it, not to mention some freight cars.
Terry - We're all hoping - - - let us know what happens with the supervisor.
Ken - Hurts to see the cat hurting. We had a big old outdoor cat and 2 years ago when we moved to our current location, which is almost surrounded by woods, he took off and we haven't seen him since. You can sure get attached to them, can't ya.

Only a short time in the train room last night, 'cause MOH and I worked outdoors burning a big pile of brush that had accumulated over the winter. But I did get another 4 lengths of roadbed down around the main town. Got to take a photo or two and post them soon. I've been keeping a photo journal of the build but I haven't taken any photos in almost a month now.

See ya later. Have a good day everyone.

I've heard of the gubmint being all in your sh.......er poop,,,,,but that is ridiculous.

Fingers crossed for ya! Has his boss hit the door yet?

As soon as he turns in his spurs, you can rest assured he's out permanently. :)

Good Morning America. 66° and overcast...no wind at all. Need a little wind when working outdoors to keep the gnats at bay. Yesterday was my wife's last day at work this tax season. We celebrated by having a bottle of wine at the closest Italian restaurant, 14 miles away. Not too sure if she will actually retire or not, as she is older than me.
Not much modeling yesterday as I got hung-up running trains. Not a bad thing though...I need a break every once in a while.

Ken (D&J) - It's a shame about the VA in your area. I have heard good talk but more often bad things about them. They do seem a bit more attentive here in TX, but it still takes a while for an appointment. This is based on what I have heard and read, I am not a veteran.
Johnny - No videos here. Scenery-wise, I am not at a point where I would attempt anyway. Additionally, I don't do YouTube, Facebook, or any of the other social network sites...yet! I also choose not to have a cellphone.
Greg - Not sure about your area, but around here both bobcats and domestic cats mainly get rid of nuisance critters like rodents and in the case of bobcats, rabbits. I think that they learn early on that birds are just not worth the trouble. Different subject: I do use the Blair Line crossings on straight track. The broadest curve that I have seen in my LHS is 24" which wouldn't work for any of my curves.
Terry - Maybe huh?

Started this post over an hour ago, but got interrupted by a knock on the back door; the neighbor kid had a flat on his car and couldn't find the special lug nut-socket needed to remove it. I gave him a ride to school since he was also too late for the bus. Mom had already gone to work.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning y'all. 46°, sunny, and going to 56° today. The surgery was from all indications successful, mostly painless, and it's nice to have feeling back in my hand and arm. Time will tell how much I feeling and function I recover, but I'm off to a good start.Go back to the Doc on the 28th of the month.

Terry: Hope the tyrant is gone, and that the replacement isn't worse.

Ken in VA: I suppose the next step is a visit from the Septic Inspector? And I thought Jersey was bad? They ain't nothing compared to other places.

Today is the wife's birthday, and I have to get her a gift. Since I'm still not driving today, she has to drive me to which ever store sells what she wants.

Curt ... I like seeing your progress assembling the building.

Chet.... Your grade crossings looks good.

I make most of my grade crossings with strips of wood which are thinner than the height of the rail. I simply glue the strips of wood on top of ties.

One of my grade crossings is in this photo.

You're a good neighbor, Willie.
