What HO scale starter sets do you recommend


Walthers puts out a pretty nice starter set, good quality stuff as far as I’m concerned.
Of course I’ve never had one, just going by their stuff in general.
I'd imagine Kato sets would be top notch.
 
Any Athearn or Walthers diesel starter set would be OK. Avoid Bachmann, Life Like and Tyco. My personal preference would be Athearn, but that is my personal opinion. I model transition period have a SW-1500 and a F-7 by Athearn. and I love them
 
Stay away from Bachman! I have heard good things about the Kato sets but never even seen one. Over the past few years I have given 3 of these as gifts.
