Steve's SOCAL BNSF layout

Good videos. Looks like things are moving right along.

Thanks Montanan!

I completed one of my sidings today and the spur to the other grain evelator(s). Not sure if I'm going to leave the buildings as they are or place them elsewhere......

Your layout is really filling in!! Looks great.

As far as placing the grain elevators, one thing I noticed is that anything tall that I have to reach over is an accident waiting to happen. My water tower is a little too close to the outside of my layout and my arm likes to bump into it.

Thanks for the comments. Good call on the building locations LASM, I may have to move them just for that reason. Good thing none are permanent yet!

Been working on building placement around my grain industry to fill it in and came up with this. I like this so far and may roll with it, good thing about it is it's not permanent so I can change it if I need to. The large engine house will serve as that on the yard side and also look like and industrial building on this side. I need lots more buildings to fill in obviously but it's a start.

Been mocking up the track to those facilities too. This is already in progress now, I've started laying the black toolbox liner material that serves as very thin roadbed for the track.

I also made this spur and wired it in, don't think I'll have anything along it. It's more for that look of another spur or track that feeds cars into my layout (possible extension one day [emoji106] )

Also been adding another siding on the other side of the double main. More roadbed being installed, should be finished up today! Hammer and pliers used to hold the material in place while the glue sets!

It's done with a roller, it was some sort of card sheets at lowes. Pretty thin but durable and flexible. I painted it a "blue vault" color. It was the closest thing they had to a sky blue.

Got some more done, this is hard work and takes time when you already have the layout built and anchored to the wall. Note to self - always do backdrops early in the future before butting the layout up against the wall.

Originally I had left a quarter inch between the layout and the wall using block spacers so I could run the cardboard strips down the back of the layout when building the mountains. That came in handy for my backdrop design.....

Once painted I glued on 24 inch strips of wood about every 12-15 inches leaving 4 inches of overhang to be flush with the bottom of the benchwork....

First section in and mounted. I added blocks on the bottom of the benchwork so the wood strips would be flush with the bottom of it and then secured in place once level with wood screws into the strips. I also added a joiner that will be glued to both backs of each backdrop section to keep them more secure and present a nice seam.....

Second section in, joined and secured. Had to go back and make some minor adjustments to the first and level both together. These two are done once they've set.

Started cutting more strips for the back of the next section and ran out of wood. I had only bought a couple pieces initially to make sure my design worked first.... Time to get more wood!

Looks much better so far, preview shot minus those hideous white garage walls....
