Good Morning All from the last day in Gulf Shores AL. where it is clear and 69°. Back home it's cloudy and 75°, hasn't rained there since this time yesterday morning, but it is supposed to return overnight and last through Monday.

I packed some stuff in the car last evening, for leave-out around 0730 this morning. Headed for Texas City TX this time, a bit SE of Houston, close to Galveston. different route home for us. Tomorrow morning it's the Texas City Museum, before lunch and finally the last leg from there to home sweet home. Then an immediate nap in my own bed!
The museum has a large HO model railroad on the second floor. The ground floor is devoted to historical stuff from Texas City, mainly the history of it's refineries and the 1947 explosion.

OK, my wife just informed me that we're leaving earlier so I have to go now.

Everybody have a great day.
Safe travels home!

The line is currently slightly behind some of us, so we should probably curb the financial stuff. It’s another one of those things that has become entwined with politics out in the world, and we can’t really intelligently discuss it without veering into the land of the verboten.

Second firefighter dies after being injured in Northwest Baltimore rowhouse fire: ‘Selfless until the very end’ (Baltimore Sun)

By Dan Belson Baltimore Sun Last Updated: Oct 25, 2023 at 5:13 pm

A second Baltimore City firefighter who was injured while fighting last week’s fatal two-alarm blaze has died, amplifying the department’s devastation while it still reels from the death of the first colleague.

Baltimore City Fire Department Lt. Dillon J. Rinaldo died while being treated at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, officials said Wednesday, less than a week after the six-year veteran of the department was hospitalized with burn wounds sustained during the Thursday fire that killed another firefighter and injured three others.

Rinaldo, 26, was taken to Hopkins burn center at Bayview on Thursday after being injured in the Northwest Baltimore fire and remained in critical but stable condition over the weekend. The fire department said over the weekend that Rinaldo was expected to have a lengthy hospital stay.

The fire department said in a news release that Rinaldo was injured while battling the fire and rendering aid to another firefighter, Rodney Pitts III, who died Thursday evening.

.we got to talking about debit cards and credit cards and how much more they were being used. He explained that it was a major goal of the government to get rid of cash. When I asked why….he answered…CONTROL. They would be able to see everything, what you purchased, were from, how much you spend and on what and your location constantly.
Again, sad, but I think you're right...Government wants not only to govern, but control the population, which it fears. Again, politics doesn't matter, as the real government is the mass of "civil servants" employed by the government. These unelected people are the ones that write and interpret the laws passed in the legislative process, and issue the enforcing regulations contained in the Notorious Code of Federal Regulations. There is a similar mass of "civil servants", doing the same thing at state and local levels, and you can extend that to the property managers retained by HOAs to bring things into perspective close to home.

These are the people that make everything difficult for the individual "citizen", whom they largely and privately hold in contempt.

Locally, our township council, hired a new manager to run the town. The first thing he did, was hire an assistant. The second thing he did was inform the council that under the terms of his contract, he did not have to follow the guidance of the council, because he and only he ran the town...scary, eh?...I understand this is becoming commonplace. School Administrators, are not accountable to the Board of Education, etc. If the public figures this out and rocks the boat, they want a way to hurt the public. On the whole, business is pleased with this process, as it allows them to get away with numerous sharp practices.

Meanwhile, the public is stirred up by the news media and distracted by the further adventures of Meghan and Harry, The Kardashians, and Taylor Swift and her beau of the season.

The fish might stink from the head, but the decay is widespread.

Meanwhile, the use of cash is restricted, in numerous cases, the only way to make a purchase is the card...either a debit, or a high interest credit card. Ever wonder why all the banks incorporate, and keep their credit operations in Delaware?

Damn! Although no one has mentioned it, to my knowledge, I'm convinced they were caught in a flashover situation, and that is always a bad place to be in. RIP Lt. Rinaldo. Rest Easy Brother, we have it from here.

Avalon Hills' Squad Leader? I have that game! I haven't played in over thirty years, but I still have the game.

Yes, I have two copies of most of the original games (ones I bought and ones I "inherited" from a friend who owed me) and also the ASL (Advanced Squad Leader) original rules and some of the sets (no where near all of them). I'd like to get the new revised ASL that was picked up by another company and stuff but haven't had time or money to mess with it. One of the best games ever.

When I lived in S Germany for 18 months back in 91-93, right before I came home, I drove down to some village to go to a small shop (in a guys attached building to his house) to buy some RC sailplane parts (like a sport body for a 4m glider and a body for a Pilatus 3.3m or 3.2m glider) and as I was driving there I passed through a village whose name I thought I recognized from a SL scenario and the thought occurred to me I was right where that history was made that inspired that. (Of course I don't remember the name now and in looking at the list of original game scenarios online nothing rings a bell).

Hmmm -- Wonder where along the trail WILLIE is to now?

JOE -- It has become quite clear that I picked the wrong profession 60 years ago!
You are "spot on" with your comments. In this little Burg of 100k people, the City Council recently hired a new city manager and his annual salary, if you can believe, is $363,000 plus he gets a car and expenses on top !!!!!!
Mercy! That is $1000 a day and that is if he was there every day! What can he possibly do that is worth that much!
Oh, Well -- Still bet that I had more fun!

Wonder if he feels the least bit guilty stroking the taxpayer like that!

Im going to guess not!

Currently 49° and windy from the north. I've gotten the garden emptied and stuff hauled to the city compost site. Then got the sprinklers winterized.

Got pulled over on the way home. Brake light out, so it was a fix it ticket. I had the bulbs, so that's been fixed and already got it rescinded. I think he was looking for one of the other 2 dark blue Colorados in town.

Also been to the grocery store and banking done as well.
