Thanks guys. He's currently sedated in ICU in Midland, but they're talking about transferring him to a Level 1 trauma center- probably Detroit area. He's very fortunate that he isn't in worse shape. He doesn't have any signs of internal injuries or internal bleeding. Considering he broke 4 ribs, ruptured 4 discs & compression fractures of L1-L4 & broke his pelvis(apparently landed on his caboose & right side). The broken ribs could have easily punctured a lung, kidney or spleen. For those who are of faith, he could use some major prayers for him, his family & the medical care teams.

Mike....I certainty will have him in my prayers!

Mike in Hub City ...... Praying for your nephew..... There are some good hospitals in Detroit area. He will be in good hands if he is there.

Below is how my scenery project looks. This is part of the rock strata I made with cut up foam board and with patching plaster.

Mike in motor city .. Very sorry to hear that news! I hope & will pray that he is able to recover without too much damage being present. Sounds as if he is very lucky to be alive.

Garry .. Nice photo.

Curt .. Teenagers .. LOL! We were all there.

Topped out here today at 117 - all kinds of records were set.

Wow! that equates to 47C. We've had 42C (107F) here, and you just couldn't move. There was a farming program on this morning where they were featuring a Potash mining project in Western Australia at a dry lake called Lake Dissapointment, in the Simpson Desert and the fellow conducting the research had had to endure 50C (122F) temps in the summer. Practice, I guess, if you're preparing to go to that "Other place".

Toot ==I lived in Laughlin, NV, for a few years. It commonly reached 115-125 for an extended period of several weeks during this time of the year. Just learned to park myself at a poker table in one of the casinos from the 10 AM tournament until 3-4 PM in the afternoon - then beat it home to the AC there. Any shopping was done very early, or at dusk!

The river there was "refreshing" at 65 degree water from the bottom of the dam. That was a real shock when it was 110+ in the ambient air. I couldn't take it for more than 5-10 minutes!

At least you wouldn't need to take a towel.

Good Morning All. 71° and partly cloudy. Surprise rain shower showed up at dusk last night, while it only rained .35", it cooled things off rapidly. It felt good to sleep with the windows open last night, probably won't have that opportunity again for at least two more months. A/C normally cycles off between 0300 and 0900 only. That little bit of rain by itself will not be enough to trigger any growth of the grass in the yard. Slow day for chores yesterday, just didn't feel like doing much except hanging some decorative lanterns from the pool deck railing. They don't cast much light from those battery-powered LEDS, but my wife received them for Mother's Day and fell in love with them. Took her six weeks to decide where she wanted them. In her defense, her mind was on tile!
Out in the train shed yesterday, I ran trains for hours. Ran local switching runs to at least five towns with a half dozen moves in each of them. Used a lash-up of three CF7's on the upper level towns and a pair of GP38-2's on the lower level towns. Did a little more cleanup on the layout, this time removing about a dozen structures for dusting and minor detail repair. Added electric meters to those that didn't already have them. I made about thirty meters a couple of months ago just for this purpose. Looked through several parts stashes to see if I had a weather vane that I could mount to the barn, but found nothing. Found some chickens/roosters, but they are too fat to be of any use. Besides I already have another mini-scene to use them in.

It may be a while before we hear from Sherrel again if he's in the "xxx" room. Lol
Not sure Sherrel remembers what to do in the xxx room.

David - Thanks for the comments. Stay cool out there.
Sherrel - Stay cool at your place. Highest temperature that I have recorded here is 113°. Several times over the years.
Mike - Thoughts and prayers from me go out for your nephew. Have a safe trip to the Northwoods.
Garry - That rock cut looks really nice.

Everybody have a great day and weekend.

Good morning all,

Going to be a pleasant day today. Going up to around 80 with fairly low humidity. Time to get out and tackle some of that yard work that has been put off with the several weeks of rain, and heat. Probably not much train time today. I have to get to the basement at some point this weekend to see if my 89FT auto-racks are going to be able to handle my test 31 inch radius curves.

Have a great day all!

Good morning all. 72 and cloudy. Got a job on the North side of Charlotte today so I thought that the best way to pass the time between the morning appointment ant the early afternoon would be to visit the not so local HS. Currently waiting for the doors to open. Hopefully I'll find something that won't break the bank today.

Mike - prayers for your nephew. I hope he recovers fully and am thankful that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Mike, I hope your nephew makes a quick and full recovery, though it looks like it will be a long road back.

As some of you may be aware, I'm purging most of my super-large, super-modern motive power, and rolling stock. One of the places I'm offering it is ion that book of faces thing. It has several groups for this, and most of them seem to be pretty good for what they are.
However, I am noticing a new trend, and I'm not exactly sure how to address it without looking like a complete asshat that nobody would buy from.
I list an item for sale, with payment and shipping methods clearly spelled out, along with the very distinct "no holds" capitalized, and highlighted. I then invariably will get somebody asking if it's still available, and they are interested. I offer my Paypal email address for them to pay, then I hear nothing from them. For days. Finally, somebody else comes along, and buys the item. Person #1 that said they were interested gets really pissed, because they said they wanted it first. My response so far has been, you should have crapped or gotten off the pot. my sale states no holds, and just saying you are interested does not mean I will hold it for you.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a more tactful way of telling these people that?

Terry.....

I don’t know if you put it in your listing, but you could put first one that pays gets the item. Then a brief explanation of why this is your policy.

Good morning. 56 degrees to start the day with an expected high in the mid 80's. It did get up into the low 90's yesterday here at the house, but I took off early testerday morning for a drive in car show up in West Yellowstone where it was cooler. I did have a Polish moment. Forget to take my phone with me to take photos.

Our little doxie was right on time this morning for her wake up call at 4 AM. Gets everyone up to feed her, goes outside to do her stuff and then takes a nap. Mission accomplished. Life is good.

Mike - I hope your nephew gets through this ordeal quickly. Sorry to hear about this.

Garry
- Nice photo, like the rock work. Looks outstanding.

Ken D&J - Enjoy the rail fanning. Are you going to take a side trip to the Diablo Bridge?

Curt
- Glad you guys were able to get together down there. If you think plaster is hard to work with, all of my hard shell is hydrocal.

The wife is in town doing here weekly grocery trip and will pick up some more mulch so we can complete the east side of the house along where the hedges were cut down last year. Maybe after that is done, I may get to go down to the train room for a while.

Not going to the club tonight as the NASCAR raceat Daytona is tonight and a bunch of friends got together and invited themselves over for a retirement party.

Here's a rail picture for today.

Hooray! Another Saturday; I have noticed that they are coming much more frequent lately. It's hard to believe that it has already been two months since MOH, the doggies, and I were plying the South visiting with all the kin. It just did not last long enough - got to go again!
It supposed to only be 100 here today - officially it was 118.1 yesterday - the old record was 110 way back in 1905! I wonder who invented the thermometer ... was it Mr.Therm & Mr. Meter?

TERRY - I don't know how much more clear you could be - seems pretty straight? Maybe Mike has an idea there - like "first bet wins the pot"?

Geeze -- another party tonight - this makes three in a week. Going to a Bunco friends tonight to watch the fireworks next to the Casino here. It's a biggie!
Stay cool everyone.

Well, the good news is I now own some sheets of N scale brick pattern styrene. The bad new is that was the only good thing about the not so local HS. The entire selection of train related items took up less than 25 square feet of shelf space. It turned out to be an RC'ers paradise tho. And the job I was doing I was unable to complete and have to reschedule due to a miscommunication between us and the customer. In other words, I drove 3 hours and 100 miles to buy fake plastic bricks. I have 2 other jobs today and rain on the horizon. Today may end up being a total washout. I need some train therapy, buy my sister and her boyfriend are making a surprise visit to the house this afternoon so that's probably out. Factor in working tomorrow, a full slate this week, and possibly having to make the drive back to that customers house next weekend and you get one seriously unhappy engineer. I guess it's true. It ain't easy being the boss.

Terry - 95% of all book facers are looking for a reason to start a fight. I would simply post a copy of the post with the pertinent information highlighted under their reply and leave it at that. The only tactful way I know to explain it better, most probably won't get anyway as it requires common (HA!) sense.

The early bird may get the worm, but it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

My 89' auto-racks (nine of them) negotiate the one section of 30" radius that I have. They overhang on the inside, and the outside corners also overhang but there is no problem going though. Everywhere else I have 32"-34" on the main line and I only use the auto-racks as "filler" on through freights that aren't switching anywhere. They just represent typical traffic on ATSF throughout my era.
