Running Bear's Coffee Shop August 2018

Thinking about the reason for the startup sounds reacting differently to the power being applied, it's probably because they don't have the motor start up sound sequences, but just go straight to idle.

That did it, I had forgotten I'd done that with all the other ones. Made a note on the list this time.

Good Morning All. 80° with a full moon but a bit hazy. Got my mower part successfully installed yesterday and briefly tested it out. It was too warm with zero breeze, so I am waiting for daylight and wife to wake up to go with a vengeance this morning. There's no dew today so that makes it easier. We're expecting our remodel contractor to pay a return visit this afternoon to install a piece of quartz backsplash that he had custom made, and to apply a second coat of paint to an area that my wife isn't happy with. He's also going to tape and bed the patch in the wall of the adjoining bathroom where he went in to inspect the "supposed" incorrect plumbing installation. He wants his final payment as well, but not until wife is satisfied.
I made the most of my last "full" day in the train shed yesterday (start mowing today), by installing a few more pieces of fascia, and sanding some of the earlier installed pieces. I installed a handful of ground throws in one corner at a yard entrance, and cleaned up a couple of structures that had some homeless spiders in them. OK, I guess they weren't really homeless as they lived in these buildings. Managed to run a few trains as well.

Gene - Thanks for the tip regarding the Atlas saw. That's exactly what I need and I had forgotten that they existed. I used to have one, but lent it to a fellow modeler (along with my John Armstrong book) and never saw him again.
Garry - Speaking of mothers, mine would have been 89 on Friday.

Yep! It was really slow here yesterday. Don't see how the girls can survive on such slow business, I'll double my tip today.
Wow! The temperature dropped to 76° in the last hour and the sun is peeking out, so off to mow I go. I hear stirring in the back of the house so I am safe.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning gang
72 degrees and gorgeous out there today. Not sure what the GF wants to do today, but I'm thinking about trackside fishing.

Good Morning,

While we were driving up to VA my brother called to tell us SIL was delayed again so we have visited my other brother in MD and other family in OH. Back in VA now and hopefully SIL will be released this Wednesday. It feels like I haven't been home in a eternity.

Good morning to all. Hope everyones week will be a good one.
"MURPHY" has pulled another trick. In wall water pipe 'tween kitchen and family room seems to have started leaking.
83* this a.m , going back up to 92 with high humidity. T/S likely with rain. SS,DD.
Prayers for better news for all.
Keep posting your pixs-Love them!
Phil

Painting my sidewalks to match. Left is a primer grey. Left is a flat tan. Which one looks better?

IMHO, you need something in the middle. I wish I could post some examples of what I'm talking about, but I'm here at the GF's place. In the past I have used a light tan, almost a sand or flesh tone as a base color, then pastels and ink washes to get the desired color. Concrete colors do vary by age and area.
In any case, take a few color samples outdoors, compare them to the sidewalks, roads, or concrete structures in your area. Mimick what you see and adjust to taste.

Actually I did find a few examples for you.

The 1st image shows a concrete road. A tan basecoat with a white overspray of dilluted paint, and a black wash to make the seams "pop",

The second 2 pics are from Howard Zanes layout. Check out the station platform, bridge supports and distant retaing wall
All different, but with the same base. Weathering makes a huge difference here.
Ooops, dinner is ready, bbl.

If I did it right, here is a short video of the new FCC GMD-1:

Yuppers == 4.7 seconds of GMD-1 and 32.3 seconds of mixed freight with an honest to goodness caboose! Pretty cool - that thing sort of looks like a kitbashed RS-1, 2, or 3? Guess I have seen a couple of something similar in the SF and UP yards out here? Maybe not? I don't know?

Good morning Everybody!!!

My streak has ended, long before it neared 56, I doubt that streak will ever be broken. On the other hand; records are made to be broken.

For the record; I still consider Hank Aaron to be the home run king!

The weather got a bit chilly for streaking! The heat and humidly has returned, I miss those cool mornings. Oh well, it won't be long before people are complaining about the cold weather.

I was fortunate to spend most of the weekend with my beautiful wife, thank God. It was just the two of us for a change. Saturday was my youngest daughter's 30th birthday. She went "down ne ocean hon" as many say here in Baltimore. Boris, Ken and Karl will know what I mean. My grandsons were busy with my oldest daughter. My son was busy with his todo list. Man this house was quiet!

I did work 3 hours Sunday, in keeping with my every other day schedule. Well I worked an hour and got paid for three to be exact. "It don't take a good man all day to do a days work" I'm not very good anymore, by my standards, but Amazon is good to me.

Chet, had a great idea, you are All welcome to come by for hotdogs ad beer and I do have distilled spirits as well. For those who don't know, I keep a variety of whiskeys and other spirits. Add to that a variety of sodas, home brewed ice tea, lemonade and other refreshments, sugar free and otherwise. Garry, I do have sweet relish.

Willie,
I was surprised to hear your thoughts on "drift away", but that's ok, to each his own. If and when you stop by I'll be sure to skip that one on the music player. Knowing your preference for hard rock I'll bet you will like most of the rest of my playlist. I have a follow up question I thought of from one of your previous posts. What band is the loudest in history? I know it was a topic in the early 70s, but I have not heard it mentioned in recent years. I'll put my money on Deep Purple or maybe Motorhead to hedge my bet.

I tried the new Guinness Blonde lager brewed in Baltimore, it's not for me! I love the can but they can keep the citrus flavored beer. I normally only have one drink,, but to get the taste of that citrus crap out of my mouth I had to follow up it up with a national premium and a shot of Jameson, now I'm out of Jameson, may God forgive me.

My new Coca Cola roller grill arrived, late I might add. Even Amazon is not perfect. I hoped it would as good as the steamer, but I was wrong. Boiling water to make steam is much simpler than what a roller grill has to do, The microwave makes better beef hotdogs, than this $28 coca-cola thing does. It's a good think Amazon has an easy return policy. I'll have to pony up some real money and buy a commercial roller grill for next 4th of July.

If I missed anyone, forgive me.

Now I have some things on my desk that require my attention. God willing I will be back later. I don't know for sure because I have my grandsons today, I love my boys!

Have a great day Everybody!

Good morning. My thermometer needs new batteries, but it's mostly clear.
Today, I'm taking off work to take my wife to see her kidney specialist. Her diabetes, and side effects from some of the medications she's taken for it have essentially ruined them. Their function is hovering just under 10%, which is not quite enough. She is suffering from fatigue and feeling cold, and she is extremely bloated from excess fluid they can no longer remove. There will be some very pointed questions from me, mainly why she hasn't been set up for dialysis yet. She has to sleep sitting up, because she can't breathe when she lies down, and she's had to put the physical therapy sessions for her knee on hold, because she can't tolerate the minimal exercise they entail.
