Well I got a little bit of everything today. Scenery supplies, box cars, kits, detail parts, decoders, sound decoders & speaker.......even a new upgrade for the layout. drum roll please!


Up first......

This older couple I have seen for years has decided to call it quits. They were getting out of business and retire. 50 to 75% off on all scenery items, vehicles, details, etc. So here is what I scored:

next up..............

2 very clean new old stock Railbox cars Blue Box Athearn and a Roundhouse kit. Got love them for fillers....on a train.

then we have the following which I debated on a few times. After seeing how they look and function. Yup I bought 2 Bachmann cars......not like me to do that but..... I did it any ways due to the fact that they have End of the Train detectors on them that were functional. Not too shabby...

So I did a big purchase to upgrade my layout controls system as I have the 1st release of the Digitrax DCS50 Zephyr and the DT402D controller. I felt the need to do the upgrade as the I wanted more amps due to all the sound locos and the new controller access up to 29 functions etc. It basically a giant leap. So here we are the EVOXD...

I then got some decoders and sound decoders and a speaker for one of my SD70Ace UP heritage unit CNW that did't have sound as it was the 1st release. I paid a sick $99 dollars for the unit 6 years ago as you can see on the box.....

So the next purchase was on a whim....I think TomO told me about these FRED or EOTD from MACRAIL.....the guy was there so I bought one package of them to give it a go.....

He also was handing out free decals. I doubt I will use them. They came from Circus City guy as he and that guy are friends....

Lastly I just got some decals, stickers and lapel pins from various vendors. Also a few catalogs etc. So that is it! 🤣

That is where my EOT devices and my PTC stuff for the locomotives come from, MacRail. Greg is a great guy and to me is filling a modern niche need in the hobby. Matt at Circus City is a friend and makes all my decals. His dad’s layout is super. He is a very good modeler, a great graphic artists and Circus City is his full time job. Very reasonable too.

By the way it was explained to me about the multi colored hopper: The story is said that the CN wanted to do a study on paint product and colors for visisbility and longevity etc. So they decided to paint one side of the hopper with this spectrum of colors. Then as time went by they viewed them to deduct their findings to make decisions on what direction to go. Not much was done from what I understand but there you have it.... this car is prototypical in the sense of the look and reason for the colors on one side. I didn't know this before hand but thought it had to be a good reason.

I really enjoyed talking to him he was great. We had a few discussions on the different devices he had and then I said to him I would buy these as I model Union Pacific. Most of his were based off eastern RR design. I said, " Do you have a mixed bag?" He looked at me and said, "No" but then a light bulb came on and he laughed and said it was a great idea to do a mixed bag! So I guess he will be doing that in a near future. I was given a small discount on just that one package. As it was 20 bucks for that package of (3). I was very pleased. He definitley a good guy!

Yup the wallet took a beating but with a lot of the deals I got it was justified with my mad money account. The only thing that cost a bunch was the Digitrax upgrade. Although I got 10% off the regular internet price that they do also didn't have to pay shipping cost. So there's that. I will be setting that up today to see how that goes and I will do a full report inthe near future.
