If a man wanted to do some research....

Can anyone suggest a few good books on the Union Pacific during the Challenger, Big Boy, and turbine era. I would like to read up on some of these locomotives and also view some pics.

The book of choice would probably be "History of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne: A Pictorial Odyssey to the Mecca of Steam". Check your local library because a copy on eBay or Amazon will run from $120 up.

Library... In the sticks, LOL! But an idea I hadn't thought of. Thanks!

Anyone want to let me borrow it!!!

"History of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne" on it's way. I know I may have pulled the trigger early but it got good reviews. Any others that might be good?

High Iron to North Platte is another good book. It's out of print, but worth it if you find it.
Amazon has one:
http://www.amazon.com/High-Iron-Nor...121&sr=8-1&keywords=High+Iron+to+North+Platte

There was one on eBay a couple months ago, but it looks like it didn't sell. You might try contacting the seller to see if he wants to sell it.

Here's one:

Here's an active eBay listing:

Good luck!

A well-stocked Bookstore or Public Library should be able to help you. Try Amazon, too.

HAL

When you "try Amazon", for railroad books, PLEASE do it this way: Go to http://www.railroadbookstore.com and browse the books there. The store is an Amazon affiliate store. You pay the exact same price, and you place your order directly on Amazon.com, so you know it's fast, safe and secure ordering. In return for promoting Amazon's railroad books, I get a small commision on each purchase. It's not a lot, but if enough people buy books, it helps.

This website costs a significant amount of money to run each month. As in you'd pay less for the bottom end Ipad type of money. That's why we run ads, and why I promote the bookstore. Trust me, I don't get rich of the place. I'm just trying to cover my costs, and anything helps. So, please use the "Railroad Bookstore" tab and start your shopping there. It works on all kind of Amazon products.

Oh, and here's a direct link to our Union Pacific section: http://www.railroadbookstore.com/shop/shop.php?k=Union+Pacific&c=general

Did you get it off eBay? After I wrote that note I went out to see what the current availability might be and one buy-it-now or best offer vanished right as I was looking at it.

Yeah! I tried a low ball offer and it was accepted "shrug". So now I need a few more. Thanks for the tip!

If you like looking at pictures, you can pick up "The Trains We Rode" by Don Ball, jr. It's a very thick book, full of mostly color photos, and lots from the era you want.

so blue you like the HISTORY OF THE UNION PACIFIC IN CHEYENNE ??? best book i bought

heh, funny story. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED IT YET!!!! The seller supplied me with a tracking # and the USPS said it was received at ogden, utah and delivered the same day at ogden, utah. HMMM, I live in Ohio...

I have contacted the seller twice. The first time he gave me a viable excuss (yada yada yada post office sucks) and I haven't heard back from him from my last email Friday. It is the weekend though. I think I might have to file a claim with PayPal.
