how to fix an engine with a hanging truck

hello i have an bachmann gp40 with the front truck hangs out of the frame about an inch, i also have an atlas silver series gp9 with a truck that hangs out less than a 1/4 inch how do you fix these?

You must have a small machine screw missing from the centre of the bolster. At least, that's what I would guess.
 
Sounds like the curved cover over the top of the worm gear on the truck top may be loose. Set the loco on a firm surface and push down on the cover to see if it has popped up some. Of course you will need to remove the body to get at the "guts" of the engine.
