HOn3 Colorado and Southern Locos

On30 Modeller in the UK
Hi there,

I'm just getting into HOn3 - On30 was far too big for the space I have, and am putting together a fleet of passenger and freight cars for a future multi-level layout depicting the South Park line of the Colorado and Southern. At the moment I have some Grandt Line gons, box and a caboose on their way as well as a couple of LaBelle coaches to kitbash into South Park prototypes but I'm stumped as to what locos are available.

I would ideally like a model of #22 in its final years as it is one of my favourites and some consolidations for freight traffic. Are there any ready to run or kit built models readily available?

Mark

Have you considered Sn3, there is lots of Colorado narrow gauge equipment available. HO models can be converted easily:

An HO Roundhouse mogul into Nevada County Narrow Gauge #2 style mogul.

P-B-L has a new K-27 coming out that is in the $450 dollar range

They have really great cars and track. There are no turnouts currently available in HOn3.
S scale is the perfect size for narrow gauge.

Harold, are sure about no switches being available for HOn3? I know Shinohara makes some and they are shown for sale at http://www.fshobby.com/shinohara1.html.

Mark, the best place to check for HOn3 items is Narrow Gauge Colorado at http://narrowgaugecolorado.com/?name=Home. These guys are the real specialists in everything you're going to find in narrow gauge. I know there are brass C&S engines available and they are making a line of D&RGW engines that will be available next year that should be adaptable to some kitbashing for the C&S. As I'm sure you already know, be prepared to bring a big wallet and some scratchbuilding and kitbashing skills if you want to go narrow gauge. :)

Those are the dual gauge ones. Walthers and most places list the regulars as none existent.

I'm in the UK and S Scale isn't really big around here! I've no idea what size it is or anything! What is the track gauge for Sn3? I suspect its not much smaller than O, but I may be wrong.

HOn3

Hi;

I have a number of locomotives I'd be willing to sell, Rio Grande Southern and D&RGW plus about 30 or more kits of rolling stock, boxcars, gons, long & short caboose and passenger cars (mostly E&B Valley). The kits are mostly unbuilt but some are in various stages of completion, with maybe a couple complete. I can send photos if you are interested. My e-mail address is:

Hi C&S,
I have a couple of HOn3 loco's I bought quite a few years back and one is a little Tea Kettle by, 'Iron Horse Models/Precision Scale', an O-6-0T which is the RGS #14 and similiar but without a tender or lead trucks and it a tank Loco too of course but might also work for you unless it has to strictly be only a model used on the C&S as I imagine the #22 was.

Granted the Number 22 is a real nice Mogal to have if you can find it? I would think there are some around?

I believe caboose hobbies has 2 examples of the 22 mogul, as done by PFM for just under $300 each. They are a tender drive model, with a shaft going to the locomotive. A new can motor from Locodoc makes them a very nice runner. You would need to upgrade the headlight to the later style as the PFM model has the mid era Lima Arc light on them. Lambert does the later number 6/9 moguls in HOn3 brass, both run well but tend to be in the 400-500 doller price range. Unfortunatly C&S doesnt get much attention from Blackstone or MMI, they are stuck on DRGW/RGS right now. Maybe in the future, I know personaly of one person at Blackstone that is a huge C&S fan, so there might be home of something from them in the future. Mike

Ken Kidder made some reasonable 2-6-0 brass loco's that were tender drive, and can be fashioned into some C & S looking models with detail parts that are available. They appear from time to time on ebay, or the Caboose Hobbies
web site. I have 2, and converted then from tender drive to a motor in the boiler.
