Athearn RDC Rubber band drive

What kind of rubber band does the Athearn RDC use? and how do you instal a new one?

I just threw a couple of these out. Any rubber band that will fit fairly tightly will work. You will have to loosen a couple of screws that hold the truck together to be able to remove the wheels so you can put the rubber band on the axle , put the axle back in the truck and tighten the screws back up.

What kind of rubber band does the Athearn RDC use?

One can still find Athearn rubber bands on eBay and Amazon. Also dentists/orthodontists have very high quality rubber bands of various sizes.

Boy, do I remember my rubber band drives breaking! Chet is correct in that any high quality rubber band will fit. I read somewhere that a modeler used hair bands in place of rubber bands. They maybe stronger.

I have used hair bands and they work great except that after sitting a while (as short as a month) they stretched out and I had to replace them again. I went through this a few times before I abandon the hair bands idea.
