Well one of my take aways at this show was the varying heights of these modular layouts. From 42 inches to 52 inches I found that very interesting as I am working my layout frame work. I started one wall thus far with the ledger set at 42 inches which is standard bar height. Now I am rethinking it and may go to 48....we shall see.

Another interesting thing about the show was the immense talent and certain people are providing their talents as a service or creating that one thing and selling it. Always intriguing.

I will begin posting my progress soon on my layout etc.

Good morning. It's cloudy and 31.
My "day off" from electronics didn't go as well as I hoped. Late last night, I got an email telling me my autopayment to Sling was complete. For an additional $5 plus tax. After some searching, I found out the price had gone up by 20%. A call to Sling told me they had sent an email to me in December, letting me know about it. That was pure and complete BS, as I had all emails to that address, including spam and trash. The person on the other end of the phone was unhelpful as possible, and told me my choices were A: suck it up and B: cancel my service.
A web search after the call showed there were lots of complaints about them doing just what they did, with no notice. They are still the cheapest, but I'm not happy about their underhanded billing practices.

Morning! Been up for 1.5 hours already. My sleep patterns are terrible - by noon today I will be worthless (even moreso than already) Coffe, please FLO - amd keep it coming!
Starting the day at 53 degrees going up to 75 after a 65 high yesterday.
Too bad about Kobe and friends! Sometimes clouds hide rocks - I think maybe the strong winds shoved them off course compounding the problem when they apparently tried to turn around - and they were not where they thought they were?

James - That's a lot of photos. Sure see a gaggle of BIG, UGLY, locomotives! (not a fan of anything newer than say a SD40-2) But that is just me!

TERRY - The local chat boards out here are full of stuff like you describe .. seems the digital world just thinks they can charge anything they want! AND don't care if you leave or not!

Afternoon all,

Just finished the income taxes for the year. Turbo Tax screaming it needs our 1099 from our home lender, but there's not enough there anymore to do anything except standard deduction. But the refund is a lot smaller this year, but we made more money. at least on paper.

Kenmore appliances are made by several manufacturers. I had a Frigidaire Kenmore refrigerator, a Whirlpool Kenmore washer and GE Kenmore dryer. One of my daughters has a Speed Queen set and really likes them.

Too busy at work this morning as I am out most if not all next week due to my Carpal Tunnel surgery. On one hand I look forward to getting something done, and on the other hope it doesn't get worse.

So any thing done on here next week is while I'm at home.

RAINCOAT: What wire are you using on your turnout engines? I'd though of using CAT 5 Ethernet wire as I have a bunch, but don't necessarily want that many conductors between the switch and turnout.

Patrick - Just saw your note re/ turnout wiring. Don't remember for sure what it is, but it I believe it is a 5-wire cable I got from Menards or Lowe's - I just cut the other two wires at the point where they come through the wood underlayment. My layout is not that big, so the length of wire running from control panel to turnout mechanism is not that long.

They are still the cheapest, but I'm not happy about their underhanded billing practices.

Terry: They're no different than Cable, Satellite or FIOS, come on pricing and sneaky rate increases. Considering that you're already paying for internet service from an ISP, for an overinflated price.

James: Thanks for sharing the Amhurst event with us.

"Sirfoldalot, post: 472481, member: 2010"]Too bad about Kobe and friends[/I]!

Sherrel: Yes, absolutely. Not a basketball fan, but Kobe was a good guy who appealed beyond his niche. He will be missed.

Good morning everyone. 31 and foggy this morning, but already clearing up and looks to be a nice sunny day. I'll have pancakes and bacon, Flo. Leave the pot of coffee here and I'll fight Cambria/Tom for it! ;)

TexasHobo, Jim, Tom, Patrick, Roofintrash, IronBelt Ken, Chad, Boris, Flip, RobotsWalk, Chet, Wheeler, BurlingtonBob, Willie, and anyone I may have missed - thanks for the likes and comments on my post Friday.
Willie - I like the Rosa's place structure. What thickness of materials do you use for sidewalks?
Alcomotive/James - Wow - nice photos from the train show.

Ran trains quite a bit over the weekend. Nothing much new - although here are a couple of photos of Wally's Wiener Wagon mini-scene. I set it up on the sidewalk in between two stores. As you can see, people are already flocking to have a hot dog for lunch!

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning All. 39° and dense fog. Back into the upper 60's today with rain overnight. Cooler temperatures after that for a few days. Forecast has been changing daily, but it is still rather pleasant for January.

Eggs over easy and a god load of bacon this morning Flo. And a piece of French Toast to give me a sweet charge this morning.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments regarding the most recent pictures; Rick, Joe, Jim, Sherrel. Bill, Phil, Dave, Jerome, Bob, Tom, Chad, Johnny.
Thanks also for the suggestions Sherrel and Dave. I like the truck parking one and will have to think about it.

I only spent a short time out in the train shed yesterday, typical for Sundays. I was in the mood for painting figures that I could use around Rosa's and a couple of other places featured recently. I also ran a few trains since I hadn't done that in a couple of days.
Continuing the tour, here's the remaining establishments along that north wall. First up is one of everyone's favorite builds, the Atlas Lumber Yard.
The blue warehouse is just some Pikestuff parts.

Further to the corner is the Addam's Ave block from Downtown Deco that I posted earlier in the month.

Behind it is a cardstock structure that I downloaded from The Illinois Historical Society. In the corner is Walther's Robert's Printing Company, another of their rail-sized ndustries. The smallish structure across from "skid row" is a DPM Gold kit called Harlee & Sons. Hidden on the bottom of the picture is the hobo camp shown a few weeks ago.

Jim - I just use the hand-held vacuum. Believe it or not, I only have two open top hoppers on the entire layout and they are woodchip hoppers.
Bob -
I could put a Boilermaker acronym here, but I'll just say we don't fool around!
Oh come on. We need to give Terry something to do on Sundays.
Good to read that you are home safely.
Curt - Welcome back from what I also assume was a safe trip that you had hoped wouldn't happen.
James - Thanks for all of the pictures. Some pricey freight cars in there.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning, America! Lots of great pictures and other goings on. Just brought two of our dogs back from the groomer. Turns out she wrote the wrong date on the appointment card, so I brought the boys home. I've got a few minutes before I have to go to a doctors appointment.

Bob - the Sparta/Cookeville area is great place. I'm sure you will enjoy your retirement there.

Bob, give me about 8 more years and we'll be neighbors. ;) We have been looking east of Sparta along 70 S. Many nice places along there and with a veiw on the south side of the highway.

Jim, we've had our eyes on this area for a few years, but hadn't got to spend much time there until this trip. It's really nice and the people are very friendly. The house is almost exactly what we had in mind. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it. Best part is the fact that it is move in ready..........just move our stuff in and sit down!!!

Jerome, I'll save a place for you. But you will have to start over in N scale though!:D

Gotta run!

Willie: I am really liking this corner a ton. The culvert, junk yard etc... really well done.

Good morning. 34 degrees with a few inches of snow that came down over night. Should melt off by afternoon as the high again is expected to be in the 40's.

Beady - Nice photos of the ships. I would imagine that you probably owned a set or two of long johns.

Joe - You are correct, that is the USS Luce, DLG-7. That was my favorite of the 3 ships that I was on. No pool, but we had a great cook and there were no complaints at all. The first was the USS Farragut, DLG-6, the same class ship as the Luce. Only spent a few months on her before getting transferred to the Luce. We made so many port calls on the Luce pretty well all around the world. I think the cruise we made to the Persian Gulf in 1968-1969 were probably the most interesting. The last ship I was on was the USS Little Rock, a guided missile cruiser. Spent only six months on it. Got transferred there when the Luce went into the yard for a major overhaul and a new guided missile radar system.

Alan - Nice shot of the Ike. I got out after 6 years just about the time they laid the keel for the Eisenhower. I enjoy the tin cans myself.

James - Looks like you made a pretty good haul at the train show. Should keep you busy for a while. Nice photos from the train show also. They had some nice flat car loads. Some of those locomotive prices were a bit steep. Quite the modular layout. This is what I like to see at train shows.

Willie - Nice photos. With the long main line run you have, you sure can add quite a few structures. I'm jealous being that I am out of room. Nice photo. Nice repair work on the tanker.

Jim - Nice photos. Like the WM steamer on the turntable. I will have to admit that I really enjoyed sailing around the world. So many people never get the opportunity to travel like that. In fact many rarely travel more than 100 miles from where they grew up. Many time I think about the countries I visited years ago that I wouldn't want to think about going to today.

Mikey - Love that southern saying. Many times on a road trip we would get off of the interstates and get onto the loal roads and see how the local people would live. Also enjoyed stopping at local eateries enjoying the local food.

Terry - Love it when they change their prices on you and you get blindsided. I am still with DirecTV. $52 a month with 2 receivers, HD and 2 DVR's. Get a discount for being an AT&T customer and a veteran. I had an issue with them but they were helpful and when I threatened to drop their service I got my bill reduced from around $150 to $52.

Johnny - Really like those close up photos. Nice.

I have had this for years but forgot what it actually is. Thinking it possibly is for a trolley. Any ideas????

Good Morning Everyone....Overcast again i Wisconsin but very mild for the end of January.

James:
I have watched "Monster" do weathering on U Tube, but never saw what his prices were for finished locomotives until I saw your postings. He's an interesting character and I enjoyed watching Monster do his work.

Willie: I like your Atlas Hillside Lumber Company scene...I wanted one and purchased one off of E-Bay and I paid too much for what I should of, but I wanted that classic model. Now the lumber yard sits in a box because I don't have a place for it on the layout. I have other kits that are still in their boxes as well.

Willie, I'm a Junk Yard "Junkie" and like your scene. I have three junk yards on my modest sized layout. I'll add my modeling mistakes to the yards after a coat of Grimy Black and some rust.

Raincoat2:
I like your city scenes and wish I had the spot for a small town on my layout. I may in the future do a city scene diorama.

No real plans for today in the train room other than check two sections of track for proper gauge and do minor adjustments if necessary. My air brush parts arrived on Saturday so I'll reassemble my back-up air brush and test. Test several cars and a locomotive.

That's all to report....

Greg

How about a good picture of that 0-8-0 ... as you have "no real plans for today"?

Sherrel: I'll do my best to take a couple of photos of that 0-8-0. It will be likely that I'll post the photo or two tomorrow in the Coffee Shop.
Sitting here at my computer my wife's "To Do List" is getting longer.

Yesterday, I looked at a DCC decoder manual and it was roughly 468 pages long!!!!

Later...

Greg
