Wiring a Tortoise with a DT-2/FL-2?

Sorry if this has been asked before...

I would like to have a pair of grade-crossing gates activate along with their flashing lights. I assume a Tortoise is a good motor to animate the gates. Following the instructions, I was able to wire up the two circuit boards (DT-2 & FL-2) & optical sensors to get the lights to turn on/off. I'm confused by the Tortoise instructions, though.

Can a Tortoise be activated by a DT-2 optical sensor board to lift/lower the gates? As you guys know, I've got eight wires going into the Tortoise. I don't want to fry anything ($$) - can somebody help me wire the Tortoise to this circuit?

I've got 12V DC powering the DT-2/FL-2. Track power is 14V AC (DCC voltage).

Thanks for any help you can provide. :)

Learning as I go here...

I was looking at the Circuitron website and my heart sank: do I need to buy a DF-2 circuit board to drive the Tortoise? I assume that, if I buy one, the DF-2 board would replace the DT-2 board.

I hope this thread doesn't make me look like a dimwit...

Kevin,

You can use a Circuitron ER-2 connected to the output of the DT-2. The ER-2 will drive the Tortoise switch machine to lower and then raise the crossing gates. We have the ER-2 in stock in case you need a source for the item.

Best regards,
Brian
