North American Ethanol Series Kits

Check em out, only prototype photos have been released at this time, but more information and model photos should be coming soon!! Ive gotten word that some of the new structures will be on display at the National Train Show in July.

LOL, Ken, you're right about that. Unless oil hits $150 a barrel again (unlikely) and Obama decides Ford F350 pickups are really environmentally friendly (really unlikely), ethanol is doomed. It wouldn't be around now if not for federal subsidies. Walthers is a little late to get on board the ethanol train. :)

Not really Jim. We model prototype railroads that no longer exist. We model eras that are long gone. We have entire railroads that are steam powered even though the diesel has ruled the rails for many decades. So why not model yet another industry nobody has any need for? Or change the signage and a few of the details and make it any type of industry you'd like that processes raw commodities into a liquid. As long as it can generate loads and income for a railroad.

True, Mike. It's just a little ironic that ethanol plants ahve beena round for 15 years or so and, now that they will likely fade into history, Walthers finally comes out with a kit.

I personally am VERY exited for these kits to come out. There are a couple of them that could be great additions to a steel mill! I think that these kits are going to be up there with the most detailed cornerstone kits Walthers has ever done, and im stoked! :D

New structures, new freight cars, and new locos! What could be better then that :D

In all fairness, it does take some time to develop a kit like this, the plastics molds alone can take a year or so to design, build and complete.

We do still buy steam engines after all.......

A fading industry or not, it looks like the buildings are very nice looking, especially for a modern era layout.. If nothing else you could easily modify them as a stand in for another industry.

Interesting. I suspect that a small HO layout could be entirely dedicated to a decent sized ethanol plant. The prices of these kits is a bit steep though.

Precisely! And the individul buildings can each be modified and used separately to populate several smaller towns or sections of the layout. My Walthers Oil Distributor of many years ago had components spread all over the layout. The tanks went to an existing proprietor, the quonset hut type bldg stands on its own, the gas pump at yet another. The barrels are spread all over town.....(altho I haven't made BBQ grills out of any of them. yet...)

It is a gold mine if you can be creative and learn to look at a kit like this as an idea generator rather than an end unto itself.
