Using Plastruct on Kits

Hello All

I just tried using plastruct plastic weld on a kit for the first time.

I was surprised how easy it is to use.

What is the proper way to apply it? I simply painted the length of the joint with the included brush. Is that too much or is less needed?

Also is there a better product for plastic kits?

Thanks

Proper way is with a small brush, generally much smaller than the brushes that come in the bottles. I use a paint brush with a wooden handle, to make sure the cement doesn't damage it.

As for a better product, most liquid cements work about the same. They all have some form or another of a ketone in them. My personal preference is to just use MEK. A quart of it costs under $10 and lasts forever.

I cut the brush that comes in the bottle to about a 60 degrees angle from the tip to half way up. That gives a finer control over applying it along the side of the joint as the 2 pieces are held together. Either a single edge razor blade or a sharp X-acto blade will work. A micro brush works even better for applying to small detail parts.

I also found light sanding of the joint surfaces with 400 sand paper gives a better bond, especially on the grey Plastruct.
