General Notes:
a. All six units are painted in special paint schemes, with newly designed paint schemes that are meant to commemorate the heritage of UP's predecessor companies.
b. All six units were delivered by EMD to UP in gray primer, and operated systemwide for a brief time period until they were moved to Wisconsin & Southern's paint shop at Horicon, Wis., for application of the special paint schemes.
Notes:
1. For UP 1982, MP was controlled by UP on January 1, 1983; MP, along with all of its subsidiaries (including MKT by that time) was formally merged into UP on January 1, 1998; UP 1982 was unveiled (along with UP 1983) at a special heritage ceremony at Omaha, Neb., on July 30, 2005.
2. For UP 1983, WP was controlled by UP on January 1, 1983; Western Pacific Railroad was formally merged into Union Pacific on June 17, 1987 (on June 15, 1987, Western Pacific’s two subsidiaries, Tidewater Southern and Sacramento Northern , were merged into WP); UP 1983 was unveiled (along with UP 1982) at a special heritage ceremony at Omaha, Neb., on July 30, 2005.
3. For UP 1988, MKT was controlled by UP on August 12, 1988; MKT was formally merged into MP on December 1, 1989; UP 1988 was released in early August 2005, and moved to Chicago, where it entered revenue service on August 4, 2005 on a train to East St. Louis, Ill.
4. For UP 1989, SP was controlled by D&RGW's parent company (Rio Grande Industries) on October 13, 1988; Rio Grande Industries changed its name to Southern Pacific Rail Corp. on May 14, 1993, and was itself controlled by UP on September 11, 1996, then formally merged into UP on February 1, 1998; UP 1989 was unveiled at a special heritage ceremony at Denver, Colo., on June 17, 2006, and entered revenue service that night, on a train to Pueblo, Colo.
5. For UP 1995, C&NW was controlled by UP on April 25, 1995; C&NW was formally merged into UP on June 26, 1995; on August 1, 1995, UP merged with Western Railroad Properties (WRPI), a C&NW subsidiary organized to build its line into the Wyoming Powder River Basin; UP 1995 was unveiled at a special heritage ceremony at Chicago on July 15, 2006 and entered revenue service that night on a train to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
6. For UP 1996, SP was controlled by UP on September 11, 1996; SP's subsidiaries D&RGW and SPCSL were formally merged into UP on June 1, 1997; SP subsidiary SSW was formally merged into UP on September 1, 1997; SP itself was formally merged into UP on February 1, 1998 (actually, UP was merged into SP, and SP changed it name to UP on the same day); UP 1996 was unveiled at a special heritage ceremony at Roseville, Calif., on August 19, 2006; entered revenue service on August 24, 2006 (following some minor warranty repairs) on a train to Eugene, Ore.
