Hello!
We are writing to inform you of some major changes at JMD Plastics and Hobby. Some of you will also be receiving this same memo by mail, or via a separate personal email, depending on what is necessary if you have any items or preorder or any deposits previously paid before becoming a member. While some of our changes are personally challenging, our most important thing is to always take care of our customers, and with this memo, we want to explain how we are going to do that for you!
First, after much discussion with our staff and board, we at JMD Plastics and Hobby have decided as a group to close our doors. The reasons for this are because we just lost one of our important volunteers who passed in late December, another is dealing with health issues, and for those of you who have met John, know that he, too, is dealing with some serious health issues as well.
However, for those of you who are members of the dealer price club, we are transferring your account over to another hobby shop that is going to be taking over much of our business. The name of the firm is Train World USA (not to be confused with the big Trainworld conglomerate out East!) Train World USA is owned and managed by Tim Kelpinski. His shop is located at 8366 State Hwy 76, Neenah, WI 54956. Coming from the south on I-41, exit at Hwy 76 just north of Oshkosh. Turn left (north) on Highway 76 and go about 2 miles, just past Westridge Golf Club. His shop is in the big red barn on the right! Coming from the north on I-41, Exit on County II (Winchester Rd.) from I-41 and go west to Highway 76. Take a left (south) and he is just past this corner, on the left. Tim also runs an RV sales and repair center. We met him at a train show several years ago and he was quite nice to us when we visited. A number of you have commented when you have come to our shop that you enjoyed Tim and his shop as well. We want to help a good person grow his business. While his initial focus was more on HO scale, he also has a huge selection of O scale Lionel and other items, along with N and other scales, with many things in stock or orderable.
If you have placed an order with us that is a preorder, we will be CANCELLING it on our end. However, with this email, we have attached a list of the items you have on order with us (if applicable). If you wish for any of these items to remain on order, you can contact Tim directly at 920-751-0025 as of February 1. His email is trainworldusa@yahoo.com. He should be able to reorder many of these things from the same manufacturers and have those orders transferred to his accounts. However, please be aware that some dealers may or may not deal with certain manufacturers. Athearn/Roundhouse is a good example, as we have discontinued working with them as of November as they have changed their policies, minimum orders, etc…. Tim also does not work with Athearn/Roundhouse. But most major manufacturers are obtainable through Tim. We are also helping him with some additional contacts for those manufacturers we feel would help him beyond those with whom he already does business, or who may give him a better price on items by allowing him to order directly from them.
All of our informational files (your email information and dealer price info/addresses/billing information) are being transferred to Train World USA and Tim should be ready to serve you as of February 1. You may wish to update your email/address/credit card on file with him if something has changed in your records. If he contacts you about your order, please take time to chat with him and share your train interests. He is a good man and willing to help!
If, for some reason, any of you had a deposit placed on an order, it will be refunded to you by mail. These deposit refunds went out today, so you should have them shortly. Make certain to deposit this check within 7 days of receipt, as we will be closing the account shortly. If some of the order arrived and was sent to you previously, the deposit will be pro-rated based on what you have already received and has been applied. In the case of dealer program members, this is most likely not an issue, as you have not placed a deposit, unless something was ordered prior to becoming a member.
You will still be required to order from Tim the same way you ordered from us. He can not do research to find you products, (though if he chooses to this will be up to him) nor did we, due to the time that would have to been required to do so. You MUST provide him with the item number and item description of what you want to order. He will place your orders and confirm availability like we did. He will not quote prices, not did we, as dealer prices change from day-to-day as you know. You will get the best price available on the day that you order. Email or phone are both okay to place orders. He will let you know of special sales, deals, etc…..as we are also providing him with our customer email lists.
It is important to us that you are able to work with a good firm who will help you get the best prices on your items, and we are confident Tim will do his best to serve you!
He also takes consignments, much like we did, so this service will also still be offered, too!
Finally, let us take the time to thank you for your business and patronage over the last dozen years. We have very much enjoyed working with all of you and making the friends that we have. While the hobby shop will be closing, we are also working to join a with a firm that intends to take over the production of many of the products we have manufactured in the past like our styrene sheets, track laying tools, styrene-tack-it, and more! When this occurs, we will let you know as well.

They have gone out of business. They handed their buyers club to Trainworld in Neenah WI. Here is the letter they sent:
