New N gauge guy
There is a rail yard near my house with a small dumpy looking locomotive.
I finnaly got her road number and searched it today. 2538
This is what I found.

Those warbonnet F units are still about the most popular model railroad engine around. The CF7, though, is really not the same locomotive as the 307. When she was rebuilt, almost everything from the frame up was stripped, rebuilt, or replaced. The trucks, with the exception of the traction motors, are about the last original F unit parts left. It's kind of like the B-52's we still have flying. They look like a B-52 from 40 years ago but there's almost no part which hasn't been replaced or upgraded.
 
True. every part has probably been change out by now.
It's still neat to see in our disposable society. So many have been scrapped out. This one is still a usefull tool. Switching cars every day makeing me late for work/supper.

Someday I'll model her.
 
DL, those CF-7's are the perfect small yard and local power. They're cheap, made in large numbers, and fill the slot that used to taken care of by Geep 7's and 9's before they wore out.
