Scratchbuilt Ingersoll Rand Boxcab in HO

We are both missing the same detail of that era! Clue, "It's a switching aid".... see if you can guess it?

Could it be the poling pockets... :-D

yup! I completely over look putting them on my box cabs! Thank God they are simple thing to add, I would love to see a switch crew pole a car into it's spur!

I'm still trying to find the pic of the very first box cab! I found it a while back it was built like around 1905 or close to it used a 6 wheel passenger truck and the cab was wood! it was built by some little railroad, oddly enought the lil locomotive was destroyed in a shop fire!:(

EDIT,,, Found the RR that had possibly the first box 1903 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macomb_and_Western_Illinois_Railway

Here she is ain't she neat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macomb_and_Western_Illinois_Railway

The Wikipedia article says: "the railroad began service with a primitive - and marginally useful - gas-electric locomotive."

So maybe when it was destroyed in a fire, they didn't miss it much.

I read some where it was in service for one year, then it was caught up in the shop fire. It didn't pull more than 2 cars at a time anyways:rolleyes:. still for a 1903 loco of a new design still neat! Nothing more than a gas motor, passenger truck, and a dog house to cover it all built in house. Makes you look at your rolling stock more wondering what else could it be used for?;)

That is one sweet looking little engine sir. Not only are your skills to admire, I can also understand why your so fond of it. If I saw that on a shelf in a store it would be in my hands.
