Drivers are getting more stupid on a daily basis!

I used to love to drive places, and now it has become a chore of uncertainty!
I agree about the recent uptick in driver stoopidity. Up my way, there has been a major increase in wrong way drivers on US Highway Ten(4-lane divided highway with at-grade intersections). Lately, it seems to be at least a couple times per week. 3 months ago, one of these cost a Railfan buddy of mine his life & left his gf of four years with likely lifelong injuries. She has a couple broken vertebrae and pins & screws holding her pelvis together & a lesion(fat & muscle cells separated) on her hip/thigh where the seatbelt dug into her. I honestly don’t know what they can do to fix this trend.

That's terrible!

So sorry to hear about your friend, and G.F

Karl- I'm fluent in English, Sailor and Sarcasm. Nice job on the calf unit.
CURT - Laughed at that good! Will modify a bit:
1: Southern English - Ya'll come back now, uah hear!
2. Aviator - What thu F&%#K was that noise!
3. Sarcasm - You could,t hit the water if you were in a boat!

One positive "thing" about my experiences with pain is that eventually, it will dissipate!
VERY TRUE, however the mind remembers for a long time - Example:
When it was thought that I was having a heart attack and I was "shipped" to Fontana Hospital - I had a nurse who was about to draw blood from the exact same vein for the third time in the crook of my arm which was a huge blue and purple spot -- I said "No Way"! (never forget that one)
That was like having a tooth drilled into the quick - the mind remembers!

Has anyone explained why the ship was not escorted with a tug leaving?
I thought that a pilot and tug were required?

And I finally got a load of dishes through the dishwasher after about a dozen tries wedging the door shut. My wife fell on the open door last week and did a number on it. The unit is a 20 year old Asko which was absolutely stellar until that event. Not sure what I'll get for a replacement with the high probability we will not likely be living here too much longer.
Very sorry to hear of the Spousal Units fall there.
Same thing happened with my wife 2-3 years back. She landed on the door and sprung one of the hinges. The cost was $400.00 back then ? (new was 8-900). it has been fine since then// she too up until last week!

It was escorted. The tugs are to get the ship out of the berth and into the "channel" that runs out of the harbour. The two tugs did that, then turned back when the ship was about 1/3rd of the way to the bridge.

I expect the tug zone will be lengthened. Shipping companies will grouse at the extra cost for an extra 5-10 minutes of two tugs burning diesel.

Good morning!

My prediction is that getting $$$$$$$$$ from the insurance companies will be litigious and take many years.

IMHO: Biden's correct that getting the Federal government behind the rebuilding, while pursuing compensation from the Maritime insurers is the most effective way to go. I believe the bridge was part of a federal highway??? and both the Fed and State govs would have an interest in the rebuilding progressing quickly. They also have the legal staff to make sure the Maritime insurers for the vessel don't "out-lawyer" the taxpayers and Baltimore trying to reduce the bill.

Start teaching how to drive.

Troy has given the correct answer.
I do not know the rules for Baltimore, but ----------

The Accident Investigation Team will be looking at
Are the tugs supposed to take ships beyond the bridge, or to the the channel?
What did the shipping Company pay to have done (pilotage & tugs)
Where was the Pilot and Crew during the emergency?
What actually happened?

What action to take to prevent it happening again.
The findings and preventive future actions will be sent to other ports to see if it affects them as well.

Who pays for a new bridge will be settled elsewhere. That is not for the A.I.T. to answer.

You are correct. That's how George Bush did it in 2007 when the IH35 bridge in Minnesota collapsed there. That bridge got rebuilt in 18 months instead of the usual 6-8 years that it normally takes contractors to do government jobs.
I'm sure that clearing the debris is going to be the first priority though, to release the ships trapped inside the harbor, and get stuff flowing again.
And yes, the insurance companies will increase premiums which will be passed to consumers and taxpayers eventually.

Morning all,

A balmy 33° currently going for a high of 67° later.

Had an appointment yesterday with the Ortho, and we're looking at getting into my "good" knee sometime after the next 90 days. The cortisone shots are not working as effectively as they were, so the replacement in on the table. It will need to be at least 90 days before they can do it since it supposedly takes that long for the stuff to clear your system and it has to be gone before. we'll see what happens by then.

One of the things I heard about that container ship is that it was at least double if not triple the size of ships when the bridge was built. While sad people were killed, it sounds like they were able to block traffic before the bridge was actually hit.

Good morning gang!

Flo. Coffee please, direct injected in an IV bag if possible!

Sad news from the bridge, They found 2 of the road crew in a submerged pickup truck. So sad. The next step in fir the Army Corps to remove the bridge wreckage and the ship to clear the channel and hopefully find the remainder of that crew. In 50 ft. of murky water, that's gonna be tough.

Mike, sorry to hear of your buddy's and his girlfriends accident,,,terrible. Just yesterday on the way to work there was an accident not 2 miles from my house on a reverse camber turn, car spun and hit an embankment and almost rolled. Speed and wet roads don't mix.
