Sienna is 14 years old today (98 in our years). A lot of sleeping and relaxing is most of her day.

I guess everybody was outside enjoying the weather. Or train show.
Fencing in the garden, adding chicken wire to keep the critters (and my dogs) out of it. Also raked up enough pine cones to fill the little trailer/cart that goes behind the lawn tractor. Still have to do the paver project, and spread the weed & feed on the lawn, plus a myriad of other things that keep popping up.
Heading to bed now, so I can do more of the same tomorrow!

Ok I have been on my thread, and on another forum was offering a weathering tutorial, a cheap quick simple, everyone has
water paint brush black and white paint….
follow my link it says page 15 but go page 20
fyi shows road weathering also in the post.

Happy Sunday to all. The weather in Wisconsin is again proving to all the weather guessers that Mother Nature does it her way. She definitely doesn’t care about the El Ninos or Nina’s or whatever the guesser put names on. It’s 28f real degrees but 15 is the wind chill. The trees are trying to touch the ground again with their tops. The winds are in the 20+ mph category but gusts may reach 40+. It may snow on this fabulously clear morning.

The UW Badger woman took care of business yesterday. They scored on the 1st shot of the game around the 37 second mark. St. Lawrence plays a very tough physical game that the Badgers always handle very well. The game stayed that way until 10 minutes into the 3rd period when the Badgers scored again. But after an almost 10 minute review of the goal the fairly incompetent referees took it away. I have no problem with terrible refereeing, I couldn’t do it, but be equally terrible. You could see the bias on the sleeves of these referees from the opening puck drop but unfortunately that’s common in a NCAA tournament. Over the next 6 minutes after the disallowed goal the Badgers scored 3. They move to the Frozen 4 in Durham, NH, playing Colgate on Friday.

We have a group coming to celebrate St Paddy’s day and now Terry, the daughter and a neighbor are moving it to a Big Ten men’s Basketball celebration. The Badger Men are somewhat healthy again and have played themselves into the Conference Championship game. I don’t follow them but the daughter is a UW grad, so…

We will have people here from around 11 to 6! That means probably from 10:15 to 7 if things are normal! At 9, I am going along with the 2 grandkids, the son in law and 4 guests and their grandkids to ride the AtV’s this morning. While it’s a fun ride it’s also allowing us to check the trail system for down trees. It will be fun for us but also let the ladies do their party getting ready thing.

Whatever you do today, avoid any bloodbaths

Good Morning All. Happy St Patrick's Day from a 3rd generation American Irishman. It's currently cloudy and 54° out on the porch. Expecting sunshine later and clearing overnight which will mean a lower overnight low. The rain gods came and went yesterday, leaving me with 0.95" in the rain gauge. That's wonderful for the garden and trees, but means a real growth spurt in the grasses and weeds that comprise the yard.

No change in the corned beef brisket in the sous vide bath, it still just looks like an inert piece of pink meat in there. At 0800, the timer showed 8 hours and 45 minutes to go. Even though I have read some recipes that advocate searing it at the end, I never seared one when cooking one traditionally in the crockpot, so I am not going that route, at least this time. I have two more in the freezer to try that on.

The Birthday dinner for my daughter in Dallas yesterday went well, but the rain was still scattered during the trip down there. The place was kind of classy with a light jazz quartet (Keyboards, Double Bass, Drums and Singer) playing right next to our table. At least it wasn't loud. My 9 year old granddaughter really enjoyed the music and said that it was better than Taylor Swift! Pricey though. After the tip, 4 adults and 1 kid came to $597.00. It was helped along by two bottles of wine at $59@; we took a partial home with us. However both the food and service was excellent. I had the 16 oz Rib Eye, wife had the Lamb Chops, (well I actually had three of the six), daughter had the Beef Wellington, SIL had the Mahi-Mahi fish and granddaughter just had a side of Mac & Cheese. I did get a to-go box since I wasn't expecting the lamb chops and they don't reheat as well as steak.

Needless to say, I did not visit the train shed yesterday due to the evening activities and the slightly extended trip there. Unfortunately we did come across one accident on the way home, but we knew it's location and I was able to make an exit about a half mile from the site and use an alternate route for the last 20 miles home.
Here are a few random pictures from the archives.

Mike - You had to mention the pool, didn't you? During our recent spell of 80°-90° days, my mouth watered every time I passed ours under it's winter cover. But the water is just 58°, and yes it's about 6 weeks too early for me to think about it seriously.
Karl - Regarding the pavers: My soil is black clay, mushy when wet and hard as concrete when dry. I set the pavers in slightly above ground level and by the next year they have settled in and all is good from then on.
Sherrel - That East to West wind pattern is unusual here as well. It happens a couple of times a year and always brings rain in from Louisiana. 300 days a year here, the wind is out of the South; thus the West Coast planes headed to Love Field in Dallas (90% Southwest) fly directly over our house before turning South about 15 miles East. While they are generally in the 6500' to 7500' altitude, they aren't nearly as noisy as military jets at any altitude.
Terry - I got the Email earlier this week from ScaleTrains. It appears that they finally received the existing Exact Rail inventory that they acquired from their acquisition. Prices still don't appear to be 50% off as advertised though.

I was never a Duran Duran fan either, I liked my music a bit less "poppy". They're appearing just 22 miles from me on May 19 at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville OK. I won't be there.

Everybody enjoy their St Patrick's Day however you celebrate.

Good afternoon all. A mocha coffee and a blueberry and vanilla hot cross bun please, Flo.

Yesterday we had family and younger granddaughter here. Has mentioned previously, Dawn had the best China out. Got to keep up appearances, so to speak. It all went well.

Granddaughter stayed overnight as it was World Thinking Day at the Brownies Camp. I took her there this morning and have just brought her back. Later I shall take her home, but not before Mama and her have a 'girlie afternoon'.

Back later

The Birthday dinner for my daughter in Dallas yesterday went well,
Happy Birthday to your daughter. I'm glad to hear the dinner went well. I'm sorry I missed it; I tend to look at the pictures more than read. 🤪

I use an Irish recipe I found online for Corned Beef. I boil it in beer. I use lager rather than Guiness. I don't like Guiness, and I don't care for Corned Beef no matter how it is cooked. Although the beer does make it more palatable.

I look forward to hearing how your fancy French Corned Beef turns out.

Good Morning!

I'm hearing it's another special day that I don't have a clue what for. Perhaps the only way your going to see a leprechaun is if you over-drink, and couldn't walk over to the pot-of-gold anyway.

Turns out, the quartz vanity top contractors who came by yesterday, were a couple of Spanish speaking Mexicans. It's the first time I ever seen that around here. I thought they did very good work:

Now it's my turn to finish the cabinet, plumbing, flooring, and everything else. The contractor only does the top, which does not extend further, not even to into the caulking.

As far as trains go, here is a very rare sight around here.
A perfectly brand-new, un-vandalized, extremely clean boxcar:

There isn't any dirt or graffiti on the other side of this car, either. I looked. The boxcar was just to close to the next line to get a photograph.
Does anyone understand what's going on with the dual reporting marks? - GATX and BKTY

Anyway, I feel like doing some modelling today. Perhaps I'll install windows into the 3rd Class depot. Bathroom work can wait until tomorrow, and give that glued in sink under the top some proper dry time.

Have a wonderful day!!

Morning folks

Another cloudless morning and 33F. The forecast high for the day is 52 but it made 53 yesterday so I expect we will best that.

While I was cleaning out the snow in front of the shed yesterday so I could extract the tractor to blade the road, along comes the neighbor on his Kubota doing exactly that. He did a decent job of it but I should still hit a couple of areas with the tractor. Nice to have a few good neighbors. The transplant, gentrified crowd may as well be absent all year. The new Bozeman.

And another birthday. Happy No 5 Jazz.

I did manage to make it all the way to the usual high point on our hiking trail yesterday. But the right knee and both hips were't too happy about it.

They are 50% off, at least for the N scale boxcars I purchased. $15/car with free shipping if you spend over $100. So I now have 7 50' boxcars enroute from Tennessee.
