Good afternoon gang.

I would have been here sooner, but I woke up at 4:30 a.m feeling like I was going to puke. After about an hour in the "throne room" the feeling had passed and I went back to bed. Woke up again at noon, took my meds and ate lunch of beef brisket and cornbread (last nights left overs) , went outside, blew off the deck, driveway and sidewalks then puller some weeds out of the river rock behind the garage, filled the bird feeders, now I'm too pooped to pop!

No layout work this weekend due to spline being on order for phase 1 of the layout. I have stuff to begin the 2nd phase, but 1 section at a time please!

Might have to make a run to NC next week. It seems my Sister-in-law just got picked up last night DUI. She posted bond this afternoon, but will have to appear in court Monday. If she gets any jail time we may have to swoop down there and pick up her daughter for maybe 30, 60, or 90 days. The other option is she might stay with my older sister who lives in the same town. We pretty much have to play it by ear.

Willie, the birthday list makes me feel old as crap! My earliest memories of Dianna Ross would be listening to "Love Child" and Steven Tyler the whole "Toys in the Attic" LP that I played to death! As far as the last "person" I didn't realize that there was a species of bat that lived that long,,,,,,must inform National Geographic right away!!

TomO,
the wife got a chuckle out of the cartoon, and says It could happen. She has witnessed some of the greetings I get walking into area shops. Like Norm walking into Cheers.

Time now to watch NASCAR and work on my Sylvan firetruck model.

Well things went well at the show, sold about 95% of my stuff until I got a call from the boss. The power company was replacing a pole that was damaged from the wind and drilled right into the water main. Took me a little over an hour to get back. Four hours later the water is back on and I'm dead tired.

Good evening. 42°, and still clear, tomorrow is again supposed to be rainy. For all the "rain" we had over the last three days, the actual cumulative total is about 0.27". Today was nice, sunny and 63°. Actually got to spray paint some Gatorboard with primer, in spite of the breeze. Once dry, these will be pads for buildings. Did some scenery work and ran a few trains. All industrial switching is caught up. ;)

NHL commentary, the NJ Devils clinched a playoff spot for the first time in a while. Beating Ottawa, gave them 100 points, with nine games left. It doesn't look like the Capitals will make the playoffs. Pittsburgh may make it as the last Wild Card in the Eastern Conference.

MLB opens March 30. For some reason, I'm not all that excited this year. Hopefully, the Mets or Orioles will make me change my mind.

Today, is the 5th Sunday in Lent, which means it's two weeks until Easter. Where is the time going? Tomorrow is the first full working session of Cardiac rehab. After I'm finished, we plan on going shopping for Easter Candy for the grand children, and for a new smart phone for myself, as well as a new service plan.

Baldwin S-12 8107 @ Ivy City 03_23_1969.jpg

This is a 3/23/1969 photo of ex NYC Baldwin S-12 8107 at Ivy City Team Track, in D.C. I really like the old NYC Cigar Band logo. Ivy City, Queen's Chapel, and Union Market, across the Magruder Branch from Ivy City were busy places, with a large volume of Perishables and other commodities to feed the D.C. community. Most of the switching was done at night, by crew 10C, which reported to Ivy City @ 2230.
Note that most of the NYC switchers that made their way down to the Philadelphia and Chesapeake Divisions, were not equipped with a "Dead Man", which required assignment of a Fireman each shift, until the engines were equipped with a "Dead Man".

Good Morning All!
30F @ 77% dark and cloudy

Before the estate sale we went to one of our Fav places to eat BFast. Terry's Diner on East Trent West of Argonne Road a mile or 2. This is a little hole in the wall we have been going to since about 2006 that seats 45. Place was packed which is usual for Sunday AM before noon. Check the pix. I waited until almost everybody got out of the way so you could see the mess. 3 Line cooks, 2 'getters', 4 wait staff and one cashier; no idea how many in the back prepping and washing. They were doing bacon, sausage and waffles in the back somewhere. Waffles were at least 1 1/4" thick. Those egg trays hold 30 eggs. They went through 7 of those while we were sitting there. Had egg, 1 bacon, 1 sausage, sourdough and cottage cheese ( no hash browns for me ) $10; wife had same except she did hash browns.

The kid on the left in the blue shirt has been there for quite awhile and you could tell from the others - he was the man. Wait staff was good - they knew how to get through the crowd with arms filled with plates and drinks. Terry wasn't there - day off. When we left there were about 15 people waiting in line to get in.

Got to the sale 5 to noon and went right in. 8 or 10 tables filled with rolling stock and power. Steve's era was later than what I look for so I actually did not buy power. Had mostly dash units, BNSF, couple MRL's, ATSF ... etc. All DCC and DCC/Sound; mostly Genesis, Kato and Atlas. Prices were $50 for DCC only, 75 DCC/Sound. All were in great shape that I could see. As a note, usually when you go to these things, they start prices at almost retail. Not in this case. I did almost pull the trigger on a SW1500 ( NP ) and if the wife wasn't with me I probably would have bought 4 or 5 of the later power anywho and let y'all fight over them. I don't think that anything was weathered.

There were boxes and boxes of well cars, covered gons, center beams, containers, trucks and trailers. There were not any structures which was kinda surprising, or track/rail/switches.

I ended up with 43 GN/NP box's and a Boston/Maine thrown in. Got them for $3.50 each - so $150 for the works. All have Kaydee's and metal wheels. Not sure if they had unique numbers as I did not think to check when I was putting them in a box.

If I had been by myself, I would have waited until just before they shut it down @ 1600 ( I think ) and would have gone back in as I still had an additional $150 burning a hole in my pocket. Oh well. Train money came from my savings jar - Huge wine carafe about 3/4 full of change. 40Lbs worth. Took to the bank Friday and got $300 out of it.

Went to CostCo after the sale, got a new uWave; 1200W @ $149, couple packages of some sort of bulb for the wife's flowerbeds and 2 packages of dirt. I could barely lift the dirt into the cart - $8.70. What a zoo. I think that was the fastest I have ever been through CostCo; even when there by myself AND we only spent $220. How did we do that?

All in all, I think I did good. Know that railroad will be happy!

Oh, will post pix in RPO when I get stuff outa the car.

Later

Morning all,

Busy weekend as I had several projects get closer to being done. I took advantage of a young teen and hired him for the day (or his grandmother did). Took out the 2 apple trees that died last fall. One was still really small and never grew out of it's original root ball after 2 seasons. The other I took off at ground level and can get the mower over. We cleaned everything out of the boys old room, where I spackled and sanded the walls, then washed said walls, taped and painted. Closet was cleans and taped, but it wasn't an area you really want to paint a second time if SWMBO didn't like the color as much as she thought. Color is one we had at our house before we moved to Missouri, and the walls were textured at the old place. We're changing out the color of the whole house, then over then next several months, I'll be slowly repainting the rooms. Been 9 years since they were painted. I will say it is time again. She is still thinking we may need to sell the house for something smaller and if we can get as much done as we can, they should stay clean. I know we need to replace the carpeting on the whole upstairs as the pad is gone and is probably the same carpet the builder had put in.

Currently 30° and going for a high later of 52°. Slowly getting warmer through the week.

Good morning. Yesterday’s predicted 1-2” snow event was just a few flakes falling as it really mostly was a drizzle. But So. Central Wisconsin is still white from the 12”+ we got Saturday morning. High today should be 43.

Financial advisor coming this morning. She is an old girlfriend, from when we were 16 and is my late BIL’s sister.

Some locomotive weathering today, along with a grocery run and then I will head over and check out how the house is progressing. The daughter is converting her stables into her business office, studio and craft business workshop. She wants me to check the placement of a few items with her in the workshop. She says she’s concerned about flow, especially around the 3D printers. That is for this evening after dinner.

enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Looks like clear and 42° out there on the back porch. Another nice spring day in store, upper 60's, slight wind from the NE and sunny all day. Up and down up into the mid-80's for the next ten days if the weather geeks are to be believed. Another severe weather chance this Thursday.
Yesterday was an event filled day. Started with Mass, then brunch with another couple from our church, home for a nap, then wash the bed linens while going for a walk partially with my wife. She doesn't do the distance that I do. Got the weedeater out for the first run of the season, and finally dinner out at our favorite Italian restaurant. What's missing? I didn't spend any time out in the train shed.

Another week, another medical visit this morning. A new to me ENT guy for cleaning out the ears. My wife sees this guy every 3-4 years and decided that I needed to go as well this time. I've had it done with a different doc many years ago and probably should go more often. The timing is right as lately I am having a hell of a time, even when I turn my hearing aids up. Up to the point that the occasional feedback reminds me of a high school assembly back in the 60's when the principal kept tapping the microphone saying "testing". I am particularly cautious about using "home remedies" since I don't need any further deterioration. What's worse? 42% hearing loss or 58% remaining??? Once done, I can schedule a visit with the audiologist for my (late) yearly servicing and adjustment.

As I posted above, no train shed yesterday. How about a rehash of some of my favorite photos from late member Garry.

Tom O - The hobby shop cartoon kinda hits home with me. I patronized a one man LHS for 22 years. Weekly visits and I escalated the amount that I spent there in the last 5 years, due to my impending planned retirement. I stocked up on track, kits, rolling stock and stuff because I was also in the process of building the new layout in the newly built train shed. I told him about a month before I retired that I would be cutting back my visits. He retired and shut down 3 months after I retired. It's too bad, since not only was he a 20% discounter from MSRP, but he always threw in some freebies every week like a bottle of paint or a package of detail parts. If I had no small irems, he would take $10 off a loco or something like that.
Karl - Good luck on the family affairs. I got into Aerosmith a couple of albums earlier than "Toys in the Attic". Still in their glory days. None of them make me feel old, as they are all older than me!;)
Milw -
Would it be beneficial to me to buy a Rotary Snow plow, install railroad tracks in my driveway, and then do one pass with the rotary as apposed to 15 passes with the snow blower? Surely it would pay off after a few years
You might try 1/8 scale.
Todd - I looked at the haul in the RPO thread. Looks real good.

On this day in 1998, Viagra was approved by the FDA for general prescription sale and use.

Everybody have a great day.
