Great news (for me). The repair guy was in the neighborhood so he stopped by replaced the modem and now we have house WIFI:D.

58 and cloudy now but radar is showing a major rain event heading this way.
At least I went to the beer store.

If it is not one thing - it's another!
My Tinnitus is so bad tonight that I feel like banging my head into the wall. Generally always there, but occasionally it is so bad that I want to scream - it;s there tonight! ARGGGGGGG!
10,000 katydids competing to see which one is the loudest!

I can't take it anymore! I am at the end of my rope! I have a dumpster full of crumpled paper. I have a 1TB drive full of jpeg, bmp, png, and pdfs. I have watched enough youtube videos to make my eyeballs roll up in my head. I have more links to websites than Google. I can't take it anymore!

Behold, my final layout plan. It will be HO, code 83, and DCC. I hope to have it up and running by the middle of March. Now I can finally get a loco, rolling stock, and some blessed rest. The layout even includes my thoughts on scenery (it's a tree).

All initial layout plans are a pain. Ideas will come when you stop trying so hard. Ask Justin. Based on the name of the pic file, may I suggest a pirate themed layout? [emoji23]

Just because you don't need it now doesn't mean you didn't need it then. Lol. I myself have decided to stick to my final draft and haven't even looked at the plan since. Trying to work on getting the track and other items needed to start the initial build. When I wasn't flip-flopping over which car I wanted to turn into a diner. Lol.

Good morning. 52° and rain looming on the horizon. Hope it holds out long enough for me to do what I have to do today.

Terry - I hope your wife is doing well. Y'all are still in our prayers.

Nothing wrong with that to get trains running. Exactly what I did!

llop.jpg

Good Morning All. 38° and cloudy. Two hours ago it was 47° so it isn't going to warm up today. 70° yesterday with plenty of sunshine. I spent some time yesterday helping my 75 year-old neighbor repair his tractor. I simply held parts (with my eyes shut) while he welded. He had another welding helmet, but it was full of spider webs and dirt dauber nests, plus the internal webbing was not securely fastened. Headed for the big city of Dallas tonight for a birthday party. Three of our friends and my wife (Monday) have early February birthdays and we always have a group get-together to celebrate. Try to envision about 16 or so late 60 - early 70 year old folks and lots of alcohol etc. Hey! We did grow up in the 60's.
Out in the train shed, I laid seven or eight lengths of flex track, interrupted by a twenty minute search for the new pack of track nails that I bought two weeks ago. Hmmmh! Maybe they're in the shoebox with the track joiners, rail nippers and terminal strips. Voila! Who would have thought... I also spent some time cleaning up some previously used flex from the old layout, to use on the yard tracks. Most of it will need some trimming since all that's left is pieces that were used in curves. Of course I had to test the track with some temporarily jumpered wiring which led to train running elsewhere.

Mark/Chet/Garry/Joe - Regarding the stock market. After losing over six figures in 2008 which delayed retirement for 3 1/2 years, I'm in the preservation mode right now. My wife freaks way more than me. She panics when we lose $300 in a day! It takes me at least $10K before I start looking around. Matter of fact, I actually moved one IRA account into 100% aggressive equity the other day to counteract the other move. Ssssh! Don't tell her that. I'm still ahead for the year 2018. I don't trade in any actual stocks, but in mutual funds and ETF's. I have done especially well in Russell 2000 ETF's. The other solid performer is the "sin fund". It is a portfolio containing alcohol, tobacco and casino type stocks.
Chet - That's quite a serene rail picture from yesterday.
Curt - Regarding the roadbed, one of those jogs is an optical illusion, the others are intentional as I try to vary the distance from the edge of the layout. I think that track parallel to the edge is boring.
Eric -
At least I went to the beer store.
Gotta keep those priorities straight. So how's the stomach queasiness? Did you get a chance to try the ginger tea/tonic?
Sherrel - Sorry to hear about the tinnitus. I know the exact feeling. However, the use of hearing aids masks the symptoms quite effectively by amplifying normal sounds enough to drown the tinnitus out. Of course it doesn't always work when I take them out to go to bed. Check out the facts here:
https://www.ata.org/managing-your-tinnitus/treatment-options/hearing-aids

Sam - I like it. Please keep us abreast of your progress.

Everybody have a great day and a great weekend. .

Good morning, everybody ...

Willie .... I think the markets are like a ratchet. From time to time, they drop, but eventually return to the long term growth path. So, we must keep everything in perspective. .... It's no secret, the markets had a correction in recent days. Yesterday, DJIA closed at 34,190. Don't look at where it was two weeks ago. Instead, look at where it was 12 months ago. When DJIA closed yesterday, it was about 4,000 than on the same date in 2017. ... 2008 was an unusual set of circumstances, but somehow, we all lived through it. There is no reason to expect a repeat in 2018. ........ Talk about misplacing track nails, I sometimes misplace things, too. Drives me crazy.

....

Everybody .... Have a nice Saturday !

Justin: "They are coming to take me away HA HA ....". You may know the rest.
Jesse: I am a glutton for frustration. I have a new idea that I stole... I mean borrowed. Back to the drawing board.

Well, I started this journey, going to finish it. Not one to give up without a nervous breakdown.

I know this drawing board thing all too well. My final plan didn't come together until I received some good research material. Explained how my railroad operated in the coal fields of West Virginia. Then I found a track plan that I liked and modified it to fit my prototype. Before that I felt I was going to have a freaking meltdown. I was more frustrated than anything. Everything I envisioned wouldn't work. So I decided instead of that approach I would pull research and find an already created track plan and modify it to fit my needs. The end result is a track plan that has the elements of my prototype.

Justin

Hey - You guys! Keep your cold weather in your own back yard! 50* only going to 66* for a high today with cloudy overcast and a 10% chance of rain (we know that won't happen) Day before yesterday it was 88 degrees!

SAM - Better be careful, or I will have to shift the guys in the white coats away from Justin and over to you! Flustrating isn't it, but I like the design that you have - works just fine; lasted for years with my Montgomery Ward Marx set in 1948. Actually, I did get to have two straight tracks on each side making an oval, but I watched that little #999 go around so much that it wore out the slide pickup for the middle rail. My Mom mailed it back to Marx for repair in NY and they sent her a brand new one back - NO COST!
I still have the complete set and place it around the Christmas Tree some years - alternating with the G Scale.

Don't knowwhat's on tap for today - I still have Christmas Decor Boxes to get up in the garage, and more yard work to do after neglecting it for three years ... NOTICE -- getting my mojo back a little ... that's progress! I even saw a glimse of the layout wood under the 15 boxes of Christmas. Spousal Unit made progress- only 15 boxes down from 17! YES

Willie: Thanks for the article - Maybe it is time for me to actually do something about it. HA, I guess that I might as well see the eye doctor while I am at it. Closeup vision still OK, but starting to see double vision and quite blurry in the distance. Wife cannot believe that I have made it this long without glasses. Getting older sucks!

Good Morning everyone...sunny in this part of Wisconsin.

Saw a unit train yesterday on the way home from the MD's office. It was pulled by three CN locomotives and a pusher. The train had over 100+ brand new tanks cars and at the end was a old hopper between the last tank car and the pusher loco. (Federal regs to have a car between the end of tank cars and train?) Funny thing that the CN train was on CP tracks.

Back down to the basement storage room cleaning and organizing. Finally, the Mrs. is agreeing to toss or give to Goodwill stuff we haven't used or even remembered we had. Anyone need some old X-mas decor?

For the most part, I'm weathering in the stock market correction.

Tomorrow, I'll run a train or two to keep the tracks cleans. No modeling until the new eyes are done. Have a Blair Line kit I want to do. Just maybe, I'll brace the walls in prep of staining.

That's all for now.

Greg
