Good Morning Everyone. Looks to be 60° and partly cloudy. Weather Underground describes it as "fair"? I generally look. Got back to the routine yesterday with the grocery/beer trek, and made several stops at nurseries etc., until my wife found the right priced potted mums at Lowe's. Not sure why we bother since they will be dead in a couple of months, but it is one of those things that just isn't worth disagreeing. Hauled some more "small" clothes to Goodwill, thus lightening up the load on my house foundation. Amazing what a woman can accumulate in the 36 years that we have lived here. Two weeks ago, we took six plastic sacks full of leftover kids clothes...our last one moved out in 2002! Next week we hope to make some small change at the second-hand bookstore. She's also eyeing our 1500+ record albums. I need to be sure that I convert all of them to digital storage if I haven't already.
Out in the train shed, I continued on my very frustrating build of a cast-pewter John Deere tractor. The equipment linkage parts are both delicate and bendable. They also don't super-glue readily. I have redone five of the eight parts at least twice each. GHQ supplies extra parts that I fortunately have not had to use yet! The paint is also not adhering too well. I don't know if it is the Badger Model Flex paint itself that I am using or the metal. The Kyrlon primer seems to have no issues. Ran a number of trains without any problems while waiting for things to dry. That's always a good thing.
Johnny - My workbench actually looks more cluttered than
Chet's. That is one of the primary reasons that I am endeavoring to clean it up this week. The other main reason is so I know what project all of those little loose parts go to while I still remember!!!
Train Shed has more room for clutter!
Chet - I also revisited two other model railroads on this trip, so I have a trove of photos still to post. I like to see what others can do and I pick up an idea or two at all of them.
Homestead work around here is a twelve month a year thing. I really don't mind it. I can pace things out either as much or as little as I want. I look forward to the exercise and sunshine especially when gardening which I especially enjoy. Rain and snow are my only obstacles.
Garry - I have "soft drink" machines all over the layout, both the older "chest" types and the newer upright types. That along with figures and vehicles add character to a layout.
Greg -
Her trip is giving me some license to spend some additional $$$ on model railroad supplies
That's how it works around here, although I am more frugal now that I have about all that I can use.
Curt - Your daughter needs to gather up all of the suggested resources that have been suggested. I was fortunate enough to have gone o Catholic parochial schools for twelve years and those kind of kids either straightened up or were bounced out very quickly. And yes, corporal punishment was condoned and used by both parents and educators in those days. My kids went to a rural school where every bus driver had a paddle aboard their bus until 1998 at least. I never heard of anyone getting whacked, but just the fact that they had it kept everyone in line. Parents around here approved.
Ken in MD - I think that you have posted that picture before but I love it. The crowned road, grass between the sidewalk sections all add character to your layout. I had saved it before and put it in my "inspiration" folder.
Ken (D&J) - I echo what
Gene posted. If parents would use some discipline at home, teachers wouldn't have to. If you do something bad, something bad is going to happen in return. When done properly early on, there is no need to continue for too long.
I use the term "soft drinks", even though "coke" regardless of what it actually is, is the more common terminology in Texas.
Here's a few more pictures from The Old Depot Museum in Vicksburg. Moving on now to the "O" scale layout.
You can see in all of the pictures the bottoms of the brackets on the wall above. They support shelves similar to the ones in the HO pictures to display railcars on. There isn't any displayed yet. This museum is relatively new, so not everything is in place yet.
Everybody have a great day.
Willie, who didn't remember to hit "quick reply" about an hour ago.
