Recordable Sound Chip

I was thinking of doing some lightning and thunder in my valance light area above a tall mountain and googled sound ic but really got nowhere. It appears there is the kind of circuit used for greeting cards but the minimum is 2000- 5000 and they all are from China. What I was wondering is does anyone know what this would entail? The lightning is a piece of cake but the sound of thunder may be difficult. From what I've read, it would be a circuit along with an IC with power(5 volts) speakers and a mic to record. Not sure what would drive the speakers. I'm thinking 1 to 1.5 seconds would be plenty but I can't find a schematic or even how to do it. Any thoughts or info to steer me in the right direction? JWB: Thanks, that one is ready to go, I was wondering how to get the sound to the chip but not now. The thunder sounds pretty darn good.
