Lionel Conventional diesels-TMCC upgradeable?

How easy would it be for me to take a newer lionel conventional engine and make it so it is controllable with TMCC? Also, is there a way to add railsounds too?
 
There are several companies that offer TMCC upgrades and sound systems for older units, even postwar stuff. The hardest part about the new stuff is figuring out how to get it all apart. Pick up a Classic Toy Trains or O Gauge Railroading and look through the adds, you will find several to choose from depending on your application.
