I was reading a story about a professional photographer that used HO vehicles in his photos. The article said that the cars were very highly detailed and made by Riko. So I get on the interweb and do a search for Riko. What pops up but a website teaser extolling the virtues of a lovely Japanese woman porn star and mentioning her statuesque height and how she was adored by the Japanese men for being so much taller than the normal lady of her profession. Then the story went on to say that she stood 5'6" tall. :D

After busting out laughing, I finally found out the the actual name of the company was Ricko, and they do indeed have very well made cars of the era that I am going to model. But, they are very proud of them. I may still get some, but not a lot of them.

The Ricko cars are nice. Their 71 Cuda convertible, and 1935 Lincoln are the two that are the most impressive. Most of their other cars are probably comparable to Busch's line of /87 scale vehicles. A couple other manufacturers that make some very nicely detailed 1/87 scale vehicles, are Brekina and Neo. Selection of American vehicles is pretty limited and you didn't mention the era you model. Brekina makes a very nice 1959 Chevy El Camino, very nice 1960's Dodge vans, and early 70's Vettes and Camaros. Neo makes a 57 Imperial, 66 Cadillac ambulance, 49 Cadillac coupe, 68 Ford pickup, 68 Buick Riviera, 74 Buick LeSabre, 76 Cadillac, 79 Trans Am, 79 Caprice, early 80's Jeep Grand Wagonaire and 76 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon. Neo vehicles are probably the most highly detailed and most expensive and feature finely detailed photo etched parts. Each different color release of one of the Neo models feature a different license plate. They are detailed enough that you can read the state on the license plates. I'm looking forward to the 68 Dodge Chargers Neo announced two years ago as a 1/87 scale release.

It may be worth buying a few Neo models just to use as foreground props when you are photographing your layout even if you don't leave them in place. The Neo cars run in the $30-$40 range, but the detail can't be matched.

I did wind up getting the 71 purple Hemi Cuda, plus 4 of the Brekina vehicles. I am going to model the mid 70's to early 80's. As soon as I get my basement finished so I can start the layout.

G'day...Joseph....I found some great Model Power cars recently including a terrific model of a Lincoln Continental...it is a gorgeous depiction of the car...a nice model probably like the Japanese lady...Cheers Rod...
