I never bought the Bachmann booster discussed earlier but I've grown to the point that I may need more power. I will be up to about 150 track sections (HO), with 6 DCC turnouts running 5 DCC and 1 DC engine. Things can get a little weird, especially when I add one of the 40 year old engines I played with as a kid to the track. That's when I see a big drop in speed from my DCC engines and occasionally some oddness in the behavior of the turnouts.
Additionally, I can see adding dozens of track sections and several more DCC turnouts. I may also add a couple of DCC engines since my son loves consists.
Two questions:
1. Is it time for a booster?
2. If so, how much booster do I need?
I'm asking because I'm leaning toward starting over with the control system before investing any more in the Bachmann setup. Honestly, it's been pretty good but the add-ons are really expensive and the universal advice on the forums about getting an expandable system are pretty compelling.
