Greetings from Sunny Las Vegas

Hello all, just stumbled into here by accident, thought I would stick around a bit. I have just retired and will be leaving Las Vegas for the mountains of Colorado in less than a month.
As my username implys I like to scratch build a bit --kitbash and improvise too. I have always modeled something , started my first airplane kit , a 10 cent Comet one, when I was 6 -- used my dads double edged Gillete blues to try and cut it out -- mostly I cut the crap out of my fingers! I still hate Comet kits! Had a Marx train set in the late 40's early 50's , it died, and I moved on to cars , airplanes , ships --then in my 40's I realized that in model railroading , one could make a model of ANYTHING and find a place for it in a railroad setting --that setteled it.
So for better or worse here I AM!

Gidday Dave, you're as bad as me, a long time getting here. Now that you've found us, what are you hoping to get into in model railroading. Any scale that appeals more than another, type/s of trains, modern, transition era, early steam, logging/mining. It's a hobby that's spoiled for choice (which can create some confusion in the poor old head). You'll find it all here with lots of helpful folk to advise/throw ideas to you.

P.S. Your nickname did have me worried there for a bit (mental pictures)

I have to agree with tootnkumin, I was kind of wondering myself.:p Glad to see you made it here. This is a great place for anything connected with model railroading with a lot of friendly people willing to help with any questions or problems. So get comfortable and we hope you stay here a good long time.

Sorry to have pitched you a curve! My handle relates to the fact that I like to scratch build , tho I do build kits ( sort of) or kitbash mostly. I railroad in HO , transition era, I guess one could say and do like logging and mining as well.
I also dabble in S scale in that I am working on building a diorama of a auto junk yard using 1/64 th cars that I render into wrecks or derilects.
I have scratched a few buildings, built 4 brass HO climax engines, made a Pacific K4 using Mel Thornburgh's stories in the 1949 to 1950 MR magazine and a few more.

Granby, it is in Grand county . 1400 people makes it the biggest town in Grand county. It is at about 9500 feet , good thing I quit smoking!
Main street -- almost ALL of it!

WOW! Thats the quickest I have ever mastered posting pictures! If you all won't accuse me of being a show off I might post some of the stuff I do.

:) I was in Vegas on a short vacation last weekend. Of course, I had to go find the tracks...
Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too. Nice picture.
I just bought a Canadian National car on E Bay to make a roadside diner out of. Stole it for about 8 bucks shipped! This is the car and something like the other picture is what I intend for it.

Thats awesome! Please share the pictures when its done.

This is one of my favorite railway themed restaurants to eat at. It is in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and is called "Saskatoon Station Place" that has 2 old coaches attached.

Reminds me of the resturant chaine, Victoria's Station.

I can see where it could do that . That guys name was Snow and he came to Las Vegas , opened a hotel-casino with that name -- forgot he was playin' with the big boys -- the city Gov't promised him the moon -- more or less MOONED him instead, the, at that time, Mayor ( can't expect much else-- She WAS the wife of a used car dealer!) any way she ended up with the hotel and the city now has Buffalo Bills private railcar on display downtown and I don't think they even give Snow any credit for it being here.

Welcome again Dave - accuse you of showing off? No way, I'm already a fan of your work.

Granby should be a great retirement town. Cold in winter.....good reason to be warm indoors with scratch build hobby and trains. My friends lived in Fraser south of Granby and I lived near Aspen for 27 years. Colorado demographics changed big over time.......not all good.....but still beautiful country.

My son lived in Fraser for a time, actually our address is in Tabernash , none of the towns around there are much bigger than a teacup.
Demographics changed ?? You mean there did not used to be so many wingnuts -- I know---- but they are everywhere these days -- we got some real rich obnoxious ones in Las Vegas!! :(

Gary, I guess I better show a LOT more if I want to live down the handle I picked! Not being a fan of the Family guy -- ( NEVER having watched actually --I lean more to South Park) I had no concept of the impression I might have given
