Grade ?

I posted this same question this morning in another forum.
This is for a G scale layout.

I am giving our spring Garden Train some thought and was wondering what would be the maximum grade I should have?
This will be our first build and all ready my wife wants to know if I can set it up to run along the ceiling in our house and then out to the track in the yard.

There is about a 10' difference between the lowest point out side to the level needed inside.
We have 22 acres so the yard is big enough.

I model the relatively flat midwest, but I believe most people try to stay to a 3% or less grade. There are exceptions of course.

With 22 acres you have plenty of room, but if you stick to 3% (2% would be better) you'll need about 335 feet of track to get from top to bottom , and you'll need to build some sort of support structure for the track. Not overly difficult, but not very cheap.
