Hi Mike -

It is nearly always possible to replace a dead decoder with a different brand of decoder. Both Train Control Systems (TCS) and Digitrax have decoders for your locomotive.

TCS has a one-year "goof proof" warranty on their decoders, even if the decoder is damaged due to your mistake.

Why does the decoder need to be replaced? If it runs OK on DC track it shouild run OK on DCC. Have you tried to reset the decoder to the factory setting with a master reset?

Bob

A master gold has sound and dcc. The decoder is by QSI.
If it is only a dual mode decoder, it is not a gold series engine, and it is probably made by Lenz. To enable DCC on a Lenz dual mode non sound decoder, remove the dynamic brake hatch and move the plug from one set of pins to the other.

Atlas Master Series(™) Locomotives

I have an Atlas Master series loco that is DCC equipped and am having trouble programming it. Are the functions controlled by the CV's the same corresponding number shown in the Digitrax manual, or are they different? Atlas does not supply a CV list with the loco. Any answers?

The Master Series(™) locomotives come in several versions. The Silver series are ready for an aftermarket installed 8-pin decoder (such as Digitrax DH165A0). The Gold series come with either a Dual-Mode® Decoder or a Dual-Mode® Decoder with QSI sound.
