As TomO (@TLOC) and a few others suggested, get a couple of old clapped-out cheap busted even, cars/bodyshells and practice on them, that's how I got started, I'm nowhere near as good as quite a few members like TomO, but I'll keep trying.

Back from , I brought back a couple pounds of beach sand for layout landscaping…it’s powder fine

Sand still drying out…dumped the bag in the cardboard bottom of a kit box…
Slowly but surely… if it doesn’t workout I have my own private beach…

Spent some time today on the edge space between the ballast and the acrylic sheet border…

Still have to dull coat it and overspray Desert Sand…

On the back side of the layout the cork roadbed runs right against the edge… max out the curve radius…
