Good deal!?

Nice. My set was $75+tax. They don't run very well though. They do a lot better with weights and loads.

That's a decent price for a set of Walthers Bethgons. I have several sets that I bought for around $50-60 several years ago. Some had a pan head screw in the coupler box that the middle of the axles would rub against. Those screws had to either be ground down or replaced with flathead screws to stop the squeaking caused by the metal axle rubbing against the metal screw.

The cars are a bit light, and the Walthers wheels in my opinion, are an abomination. I swapped the wheels for Intermountains, swapped the dummy couplers for real Kadees (the prototype isn't always run as a unit!), and bought coal loads for them (from Motrak Models). To add weight, I had some metal nuts laying around so I glued them to the underside of the weights to bring them up to NMRA spec.
