This line went south from Livingston to the town of Gardiner, MT. It not only took tourists to visit Yellowstone park, but also supplied the town with the necessities of every day life. Regular service was discontinued in 1955 with the exception of some special trains and was abandoned a year later as the roads had been improved to all trucks to supply the town.

Chet: The club replication is extremely well done, especially considering the source documents were black and white photos. Impressive.

One of the club members wife did all of this work. Gardiner is just over 50 miles south of Livingston so it is extremely easy to get a feeling for the scenery. Although not in the modeled area, a lot of the building are still standing from the early 1900's. She really did an outstand job not only researching the old station, but also doing the model of this location. It is a great addition to the Museum at the old NP depot. In this Google Earth image, I placed a marked where the station was. Inside the loop is now where the high school is. You can still make out some of the old right of way coming in from the left of the image. The the lower right of the station location is the arch where the little red dot is.

We usually get down there at least once a year.

Those old Charabancs with the passengers sitting out past the rear wheels, must have been a heck of a ride over the bumps.
