Basic question about a reverse loop

I'm preparing for a DCC layout and I'm considering two reverse loops with ARUs. I was wondering if I can use the first design below, or if I have to go with the second design. While one loco goes through the reverse loop, would there be any effect on the other locos on the main under either design (as long as the loops are properly isolated)? Keep in mind I'm a novice...lol, thanks.

So long as the space between turnouts 1 and 2 and the space between turnouts 3 and 4 are long enough to hold all the locomotives in the consist (which could be only 1) the first design should be fine.
 
The length between 1-2 and 3-4 should be about 7-8 feet, and I don't plan on using consists...just a single loco for each train. So as long as the ARUs are placed between 1-2 and then 3-4 I'll be ok?
