A train broke down in front of my work!

I was at work today eating lunch and all of a sudden I hear a loud screeching / squealing sound. I look outside and there's a Metra engine and switcher sitting on the mainline! There's also about 4 different vehicles from the railroad outside.

I think the engine broke down a little bit further down the tracks at the station and the switcher had to come and rescue it. The railroad often has cars out by my work as there is a signal there they check regularly so I think they were stopped there today to give the engineer of the broken engine a ride.

It was an interesting sight. :)

IIRC, wouldn't that be on the Western lines? (All of my experience, years ago, was on the North Shore branch.)

It's either the old CN&W (UP) line or (I think not) the old Milwaukee Road. My son and took that on a Saturday for a ride using the (then) $5 all day pass. We spent the whole day riding trains. Great fun for $10.
