Running Bear's Coffee Shop August 2018

Good morning. It's mostly cloudy and 72.
Heading off to the doctor's in a few minutes for a physical.

The streak continues!

In baseball, a hitting streak refers to the number of consecutive official games in which a player appears and gets at least one base hit. According to the Official Baseball Rules, such a streak is ended when a player has at least 1 plate appearance and no hits.

The streak I refer to is consecutives days posting on the forum.

The other kind of streak some have referred to - run naked in a public place so as to shock or amuse others.
While those comments are entertaining, If I did that it would certainly be shocking, but not in any way entertaining.

When I was young (16-17) coming out of the shower after a baseball game one of the other players was staring at me. I asked in my usual polite way "what the f#@K you looking at? he said "you look like superman"

Now I look like a semi-deflated blow up doll.

Time can be cruel, but I'm happy!

Good morning Everybody!

Overcast, warm and humid in southeast Baltimore, nothing new. On the bright side, there is always a bright side. Everyday you wake up is a good day, thank God.

Some days are just better than others.

Good morning everyone. 71 and drizzly here in SW MO. Only got a few minutes in the trainroom last night. When we got home from work power was out in our subdivision. A huge limb had fallen on the line into the subdivision, knocking out power. We went out to visit family and eat out and by the time we got back, the limb was cut up and power was back on.
Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone. 68° and partly cloudy, pleasant day in store with the high only around 92°. Nothing special around here except there is a dew on the ground which we don't normally experience in August.
Stayed busy out in the train shed yesterday. Finished up the latest structure build, a DPM kit called "Our House", currently unavailable on their website.

Ignore that it is on the road, it's the easiest location for me to take a picture. People and animals were added by me. Dog and cat are pre-painted Preiser creatures, mom and girl are unpainted Preiser figures that I painted, dad in the rocking chair came from a Woodland Scenics package that my grandson's gave me for Christmas. Note to Chet who has the built-up version; I left off the wind vane because I am going to use it on the recently completed barn. I still need to add the reel mower and a grass rake that came with the kit, but I need to straighten out the bent handles first. There's also a propane tank not pictured here.

Johnny - Lady luck was with you regarding the tornados. 1 1/2" of rain is not a ton around here, I got 8.5" last week in two days!!!
Garry - Good use of the brass rail. I like the picture. Hadn't seen the speeder shed from that angle before. I like your idea for using the shredded paper for steel scrap loads.
Chet - Thanks for the comment. That smoke sure is a drag in your area. That pair of pictures really shows it's effects.
Sherrel - Sure sounds like a lovely vacation spot!o_O Hope that you survive. I dislike crowds as you may have noted when you visited. Thanks for the comment on the picture.
Greg - While probably not as colorful, there are several small towns in this area that also resemble the DPM catalog.
Dave - Looks like you got to haul some interesting loads.
Jesse - Hope that you are feeling better and can return to money-making. I mentioned last week about switching out an unnamed warehouse which is another low-relief structure that needs additional detailing, made from DPM modular walls. Here's a couple of pictures.

Scrap loads in the foreground are some more from Chooch.
Louis - David has not been here in a while although he did check in about a month ago. He was having vehicle issues and possible health issues that he didn't elaborate on. As I recall from the past, he spends a lot of the summer months hanging out in the lobby of a nearby air-conditioned casino with friends, since he does not have a/c in his house. I think that iced tea and snacks are complimentary.

Everybody have a great day whatever day it is.

Good morning ..

Louis ... Of course, I'm familiar with baseball streaks, but I could not resist making a joke. I hope it did not bother you to be targeted by good natured razzing. .. I only razz people I like. My wife and I razz each other so much that others might think we have a problem. LOL .

Willie .... Your house is exceptionally nice. Details such has plants, pets, and family members bring it to life. ....

Here is some scrap in Reggie's junk yard, As you can see, they have partly loaded the gondola . .. (Stay away from "Dawg", the mean junk yard dog. )

Here are loads of scrap at my steel mill. The first two are made from paper shreds from a shredder. The gondola next to the switcher has a commercially made load of bailed scrap.

Willie, thank you!

Garry I was with you all the way :) I am very familiar with your great sense of humor and I enjoy a little ribbing myself :)

You know me, I always put to much information.

Good Morning Everyone....over cast here in Wisconsin and last night we received over 5 inches of rainfall and more rain later today.

Today, the first order of business is repairing a toilet that has a leaking flapper valve and then check the sump pump's operation. We're on a hill so a lot of the rain water runs away from the house.

Later this afternoon I'll spend some time on the layout since I need to do some paperwork for a upcoming meeting we are having before doing anything else.

Short and sweet today.

Greg

Back from my physical. The doc thinks I might live another year, and made an appointment for another physical next year.

Good morning. A chilly start to the day at 45 degrees with an expected high in the 60's. The high yesterday only got to 54 degrees with winds out of the north and some showers. I do appreciate the rain as now I don't have to drag hoses atound the yard. We should be back up into the 80's by the end of the week.

truckdad - That looks like a Mig 21.

Ken - Great photos of the GP-30's.

Willie - Nice job on that house. Looking good. The other photos -- Thumb up.gif

Garry - ice shots of the scrap yard. You have given me some ideas. Mine is still a work in progress.

I have a new project to work on. I had this Stewart F-9 that I had put into a junk box, but now it is going to be converted to DCC. It does have a Kato drive and was DCC ready apparently. Someone else will be doing the DCC conversion, so I am getting started on the shell. Yesterday I ordered the needed detail parts. I have a set of decals and have started putting them on the shell. It came with no road numbers. All it had was the nose graphics and Northern Pacific on the side.

F-7's had the twin horn on the roof, but f-('s had the 5 chime Leslie horns. I do have a couple in my parts drawer. I need a winterization to put on before the roof can be repainted. I chose 7012A because I got photos of it the day it was leaving the Livingston yard for Washington state.

It is still in service now at the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad.

This photo was tahen right after the correct nose paint job was done. Looking a bit shabby now.

When this is done I can put in with my RS-1 a pull decent size trains at the club.

Here's my rail picture for today.

Willie/Karl/Garry/Chet/Sherrell - thanks for the kind words about my GP30's! (Hope I didn't miss anybody...)

Karl, I believe the first item in your list, #190-400, bears the closest resemblance to what I need - thanks for finding it! Here is a photo I got of one with a hand-me-down, totally-manual 35mm camera in 1971 - the only GP30 shot in my entire proto-photo collection where the horn is plainly visible. (Any of you Marylanders recognize the location?)

View attachment 29960

Now I have to order one of those horns for each GP30 on my roster. I can't count the number of times I tried to fashion something like that out of plastic only to have them break off a short while later...

All I have to say is that they sure wanted the engineer to be able to hear that horn!
Must have a bunch of deaf engineers around the B&O.

That's why ATSF moved all of their horns to the middle of the long hood after the FRA (or whoever it was at the time) mandated louder horns in the early 80's. I was told this by an engineer at the time, I cannot verify the FRA part, but I know that they moved them as well as the headlights to the front of the short hood at the same time. Top of the cab was blinding engineers in some situations. Joe might know more about this.

Chet - I like the paint on the first one better - the Solid Stripe!
Neat photos though - can really see the details.

We wandered back around 11 pm last night. Will spend most of the day cleaning all the sand out of everything. Speaking of sand ... we had a bunch of it all to ourselves yesterday. The ocean side was more busy, but it seems that school has started again and the crowds thinned.
The "old folks" (lol, I am one of) started showing up and the campground is 90% full again.

Ken, I can't be sure, but I'll guess it near the Howard Street tunnel?

*ding*ding*ding* We have a winner! That's right Louis, the train was headed right into the Howard Street Tunnel (~200ft behind me). Not sure if that long building in the background is what eventually became part of the Orioles' Camden Yards stadium[?]
