Pros: Easy installation, slow action, QUIET, no BUZZ, holds the turnout in thrown position.
Cons: No manual operation of the turnout

I bought my Tortoise used for $10 bucks each. Even if you compare a Peco motor at 8.99 you have to add a piggy back switch to equal Tortoise capability.

Easy to mount. I'd read tips about how to simplify Tortoise installation and assumed they would be hard to install. Nothing to it, drill a 1/2" hole under the throwbar, stick the throw wire up through the hole in the turnout throwbar and screw the tortoise to the plywood. Foam is more difficult.

Small under turnout hole Compare with the Peco which requires a huge hole under the turnout about 1" x 1.5".

Quiet, silent operation

Realistic slow action like a real turnout.

Very low current drain

Not compatible with the use of manual ground throws.

Cannot be manually thrown, requires electrical signal.

I am getting rid of my Peco's in favor of this one

Pros: Quiet, effective, strong, holds switch in place, + lots more.
Cons: Throw rod can be too weak, unit may be a bit too large for low clearance situations.

Very cool device! Uses very little current and is a snap to wire up. Even in retrofit situations there are numerous options for switches, plus the built in DPDT switch is great for signal lights.

In my setup its design was particularily useful as I have handlaid switches, and this unit holds the switch in place (a problem without hand throws installed). However I did have to upgrade the throw rod wire to a higher gauge as suggested in the instructions - used music/piano wire - then it worked flawlessly. Used a 0.032" rod as opposed to the supplied 0.026" and it worked great.

Definitely recommend this product.
