Pros:
Works well, and easily
Cons:
No "hold closed" cap or latch

This product works well for cutting rail. It takes some minor learning so that you don't twist the rail, but otherwise its great. However, I feel Xuron left out a "hold closed" safety device. I have to place it in the bag so that I don't accidentaly jab myself with it.

Pros:
it cuts rail fairly well
Cons:
it doesn't cut screws
I have busted 2 of these trying to trim off the ends of screws. As a track cutter is fairly decent, except you have to have a good file as well.

Pros:
Durable with proper use
Cons:
Hard to use on already laid track.

I have used a pair of these for over 3 years w/1000ft of track and they still make a good cut. As pointed out, you must make sure that the rail doesn't twist as you apply pressure and cut top to bottom for HO rail or you will get jagged edge instead of a smooth cut. Some filing may be required, but not much when cut properly. It is not designed to be used on anything other than MR rail. Do not try to use on piano wire or screws and etc. as it will notch the cutting edge.

Pros:
Reasonably priced, precision cutters that cut nickle silver rail cleanly and accurately.
Cons:
I'd rather see the handles yellow instead of orange. . .

These rail nippers are advertised as rail cutters, not universal cutters. If one chooses to cut anything harder than Nickle Silver rail which mans screws, piano wire, nails, drill bits, cable etc, they will be damaged. There are tools designed and sold for those uses.
I am amazed at how cleanly the cuts are. I bought a 2nd pair because people told me that they wear out quickly. I've made well over a 1000 rail cuts with mine and they cut as square and accurately as they did when new. I'm convinced that properly maintained, they will serve me well for many more years. They do need to be kept away from moisture and not subjected to unacceptable uses. I use mine for cutting plastic parts, wire 18 gauge or smaller and other small and soft materials.
If I lost them, I'd make a special trip to the hobby shop to buy another pair.
