Pros: Pro - plug and play, SLOW Speed operation, velvet smooth operations, superb, ultra realistic sound.
Cons: Cost

I purchased 4 of these decoders and the sticker shock was pretty terrible, even though I got them for about 15% off list.

The purpose of the purchase was to see if what they would do to my very disappointing Athearn Genesis F7's.

I can only tell you that I am so pleased I did the conversion. Each one took me about 45 minutes and the results were beyond my wildest imagination.

Pros: The sound quality and the quality of the recordings
Cons: intolerant of shorts and erratic packets sent out by the DCC system

This decoder is great, and is worth every penny. They recorded the sounds from the prime mover, and recording the transition/ramping up sound when the engine is throttled up and recorded the sounds at every notch rather than pitch bending and speeding up the recording that other manufacturers may do.

They aren't very tolerant of intermittent shorts or the erratic packets that the club's Digitrax Super Chief system puts out in the event of a short, but they work fine otherwise.

This one is designed to be used with Athearn's bulbs, or other 1.5V bulbs, but there is a pad on the decoder for full track voltage if you want to use LEDs. They don't really cover this in the instructions.
