Description:
|
At ExactRail, we don’t just talk about precision, accuracy, and detail …we execute it with relentless passion. We’re proud to share this tradition of excellence in our all-new Gunderson composite sided wood chip car.
Precision framed in its plate “F” stature is actual “I” beam construction overlaying fully wood grained panels inside and out. Built in 1965 for service on the Southern Pacific, these sharply designed cars could be seen throughout the SP system and throughout North America under secondary ownership in later years including up to present day.
Fully decked-out with etched brake platform, wire grab irons, wire coupler cut levers, air hoses and finely crafted brake gear including wire brake rods, this masterpiece of scale model replication smoothly rides on ExactRail’s prototypically correct ASF 100-Ton Ride Control trucks equipped with precision CNC-machined 36” wheels.

This car beats the WC 6033 cu ft Boxcar of ExactRail's that I just reviewed, by a long shot.
The car comes with complete brake rigging, and train air line details, scale coupler pockets and well detailed trucks with 36" wheels. Etched metal brake platform (mine was missing, contacted ExactRail already), and a coupler cut lever are installed.
The wheels are a tad too narrow on the gage side (NMRA Mark IV gage was a tight fit between the backs of the wheels). The couplers are at the correct height. though the trip pin was way to low (I'll be swapping for Sergent EN87's anyways).
The wood side detail is SWEET! I can't wait to get around to weathering this model to match the aged wood on a patched car (WTCX 5102 is my chosen prototype).
My only complaint is the missing Brake Platform, and the two broken stirrup steps, which I've already contacted ExactRail about.
Update:
I received my replacement car, this time around it did have the brake platform, and no broken steps. However it had one loose corner piece which was easily re-applied.
I must say, ExactRail either needs better QC, or better packaging, maybe both.
