Description: Covered hoppers are a relatively new car family. The AAR considered these “special” cars until the 1980’s when they finally got their own car type code category. These early covered hopper designs were built primarily for more efficient cement loading and unloading (previously cement was bagged and placed in box cars). This two-bay covered hopper car design was built by Pullman-Standard starting in the late 1940’s with production continuing into the 1950’s. This car features eight round roof hatches for quick loading. Two large gravity gates were used to discharge the commodity as quickly as possible. Capacity is rated at 2,003 cubic foot.

Pros: Well molded, no flash
Cons: One of 3 cars had a loose weight on arrival

Excellent product. This Trainman car is a new run on an old Atlas car. Not sure why they made the switch to Trainman...

I bought 3 Undec's. I intend to rebuild them as Morrison-Knudsen did. I have yet to get the ballast doors for them. Eastern Car Works makes the needed ballast door kit.

I initially opened the one kit with a loose weight. Disassembling went easy, I simply pulled downward on the floor, and it slid right out. The car has notches to hold the floor in, though they seem a little loose.

I then removed the roof walk, by prying it upwards. It came off easy as it was only press fit.

The hatches are secured with a small drop of plastic cement from the underside. I used my fingernail to pry them off, working from the middle of the car outwards, as to not damage the latch.

End slope plates look to be secured with a line of cement at the top, I'm not sure if I'll need to remove them yet, so as of yet they're staying installed.

The chassis is well weighted, with a rod of steel down the center beam, and a sheet place above that, which conforms to the center slopes.

Trucks are free rolling, and the couplers are normal el-cheapo Accurail plastic.

Pros: Nice detailing-tracks well-has knuckel couplers
Cons: Wobbel a bit on turns, may be under weight?

Nice car over all, I bought 3 at a time, the detail is great with very crisp lettering knuckel couplings and metal wheels, this keeps me from having to change out the wheel sets and couplers.
Over all I give them a thumbs up!

Pros: It comes RTR and is properly weighted right out of the box
Cons: Grab Irons not prototypical

Usually with this hobby, you get what you pay for. With Atlas Trainman, you get what you pay for, an then some :P

Great little car. Nice detailing.
